iv started to get a strange knocking noise from my 205 engine for the last month or so, the only way i can explain it is it sounds like a wooden spoon tapping on the inside of an empty tin can. its not the usual ticking nose cossie's get as its not as its not as high pitch so i don't think its the tappets. you can only hear the noise on idle and dose it all the time even when the engine is hot or cold, i wouldn't say its an overly loud noise you can clearly hear it but its not enough to make you cringe or think the engine is fucked, also it doesn't speed up or slow if you rev the engine it just randomly dose it every 2-3 seconds

well iv tried my best to explain it but its hard to put into words lol so any help would be great, i dont think its to much to worry about but its easyer to ask the questions now rather then rebuliding an engine later

 

Does it go altogether above about 1500 rpm ?, you could be looking at piston slap, what's the mileage ?

I don't think the noise dose go away above 1500rpm I just think the engine sound drowns it out but I will have a listen later when u get home. I don't think it is piston slap as I get piston slap when the car is cold and once it's hot that goes away but the slight knocking noise says. The milage it about 94k but the previous owner told me the engine was rebuilt 4k ago but if that's true or not I don't know lol.
