MK1 Focus RS Knocking From Bottom End, or Gearbox????

Default MK1 Focus RS Knocking From Bottom End, or Gearbox????

Hey People

Need some help with my FRS, Ive got a slight knocking noise from the bottom end or the gearbox, i cant quite make out were its coming from. Ive also found oil on the exterior of the gearbox casing, WORRIED!!!

Any help would be appriciated.

hi mate
i have exactly the same on my frs , cant see where its coming from , i had a garage say it maybe head gasket leak .

zetec engines are prone to weep oil from the rear crank shaft oil seal behind the fly, this runs out the bottom of the box. it should not cause a knocking sounds though but could eventually contaminate the clutch friction plate. does the sound go away if you depress the clutch?
