Hi There, can anyone help me. I have a Focus st2 & seriously need a tow bar but apparently Ford don't do them for the ST's. probably due to the rear exhaust silencer being in the way & possibly the rear bumper being to low. Does anyone know if one has been fitted to an ST if the rear exhaust could be re routed. Will a standard focus tow bar fit the ST bodyshell??? thanks Rich (Shropshire)

I was told for the exact reasons you mention one could not be fitted unless you have the exhaust moved

 

as far as i am aware, the st isnt type approved to tow, like the st220.so if you do manage to get something to fit it wont be legal

 

Crap, often banded about, look on the VIN plate and see if it has tow weights, when you see it has you realise it is perfectly legal to use for towing, I had the same problem with the sapphy, only ford told me it would need uprated brakes and suspension to tow, presumably 1.3 sierra brakes are better than cossie 2wd!!
I've looked into this in very great detail, even seeking the advice of a barrister I know if the tow bar can be fitted without having to modify the tow bar in any way, then it's 100% legal.
When a tow bar is designed, and put forward for approval they absolutely do not and don't need to supply a car of every single trim and model type in that range to get approval, it's called block approval, witter made a tow bar for fords then new 3 door cossie in 1986, even though ford say can't tow this was commissioned by ford HQ themselves.
On my sapphy I found the std sapphy bar fitted perfectly with no cutting of the rear bumper at all, it's bloody close to needing to be cut but not quite
