Certainly appears to be an XR3i shell to me but no mention in the ad - interesting ?

Unlikely but certainly possible though.

 

We buy any car have it listed as an RS Turbo, however, this worries me even more now though cos its probably a reshell into an XR3i shell (getting into ringer teritory as based on what i see its registered as an RS) its unlikley someone will paint round the windows to make it look like a 3i if it is an RS - dont really wanna waste on an HPI on something that now looks like a complete no go area.

 

Just typed it in a reg check at work comes back as a RS built nov 88.

 

Go and have a look lol, have a look at the vin number, pop to ford and check it out.

The car in question has been re-shelled into an xr3i shell with s2 identity so stay away chaps as i know the car

 

Also says 250BHP but appears to be on MFI with no 5th Injector.....

Just spoke to ford they said it has had 22 owners and was Grey and colour was changed to white 28/05/10 and has had 4 owners in the last 2 years.
The parts bloke even said stay well clear LOL.

 

If you went to all the hassle of re shelling a mercury grey turbo, then at least paint the donner shell the right colour! then none of these questions would never need asked or better still leave it registered as a 3i

 

You mean it was rung into the nearest shell he could find?

 

I usually read the estimated power as 100bhp less then 'estimated'

i looked at his feedback and appears he bought it on the 7th of august this year for £1200 lol

 

buy to bust for parts maybe worth 1k in bits but never 2500 asking

 

looks like an rs turbo shell to me lads the roof gutter goes all the way to the tailgate, they stop quite a way away on xr3's

 

I used to think that was the case, but have since been proved wrong. It's age related. The gutters stop short on early MK3 cars but all MK4's have longer gutters. My 1982 XR3 has short gutters but my 1985 Ghia and 1988 ERST both have long gutters. The chap down the roads 1989 XR3i also has long gutters as did a 1990 Bonus (sad that I noticed really) which parked next to the XR3 the other week in ASDA

 

Could just be a 3i with rs plates

Some interesting comments in there including

As i have already stated i know this car and what has happened to it as the bloke that did it is quite a shady fella it has been re-shelled into a mk4 xr3i shell and had all the i.d tags changed from a rotten f plate mercury grey series 2 onto it so the shell is a genuine xr3i but everything else is rst

 

If it's an RST shell the chasis should read,

WFOBXXGCAB then engine number (2 letters and 5 digits)

Xr3i chasis number is,

WFOBXXGCAC then engine number,


from what I can remember when I had mine....hope this helps,

 

Its deffo a ringer. If that plate is registered to a Mercury Grey car which had a colour swap to white in May this year then that Engine bay and boot floor have taken a hammering since they were painted! That is an original white car for certain!

 

Plus it easy to change a floor number. Cut it out, weld it in then grind the welds down and blend it in with a flap wheel. Not that I'd ever do it BTW, but it wouldn't be difficult unfortunately.

 

Exactly muz its not hard to do, anyone that goes to see it will know that its had the chassis number by the seat tampered with

But its not his fault m8 he probably bought it as an rst and thinks it is its the persons fault who changed it all over he is the one that needs a good slap!!!!

i sent him a message aswell, told him to get it to his local police station so they can destroy it.

 

They have gotta be the most expensive rs turbo wheels i have ever seen. £1300!! lol, alot of hassle to paint the black round windows, looks naff anyways

 

Its up to £1550 now - (reserve not met yet tho)

Some people just dont have a clue, he only paid £1200 for it in July - if thats worth £2500 then mines worth about £8000 result !!!!

 

stupid question maybe... but what are the legality's of reshelling a car? is there any way of doing it? I thought that you were aloud to reshell a car??? and keep the reg etc?
