i have a golf 1.4 mk4 y reg,
the problem i have is that when doing 40mph in a 50 mph zone on the motorway when all other cars are doing 50mph im doing the same speed sitting next to them and mine is showing 40mph,
is the speedo ontop of the gearbox?
is it electrically controlled?
is this the fault?

any info appreciated regards ashley

 

Almost defo a lecky speedo, have you/anyone changed the tyre size ?, maybe everyone else is just speeding the same amount.
Can be fixed anyway, some easy some hard to do, ŁŁŁ's.

the car has 18 inch wheels,
i have a spare wheel on at the moment, because of a puncture,

 

could be the size of the wheels throwing the speedo out mate.

Find someone with VAGCOM and get your speedo re calibrated to the tyre size you're running

 

If they can do this on VAG then that would be as said the best bet.
