Default converting a base model to cvht mfi?

hi,can anyone be nice enough to take a few minutes to write what i need to do to convert a ancient granny spec ghia to cvh turbo?

il buy the complete rst to convert, just scared of mfi, il probs end up throwing it in the canal or setting it on fire

Plus wiring too? is it simple plug and play with the loom from the erst? through the bulkhead and into the car?

cheers guys

Just to clarify, you want to put a 1.6 CVH Turbo into an old Granada?
Or an Escort Ghia? lol

escort ghia! found a good one Also!

is it illegal to reshell a rs turbo if you use the vin numbers?

i.e cut out the old vin off the rs turbo and weld onto another shell, and drill rivets from slam panel off the rst and redo on the other shell?

i think he means escort ghia, granny spec as in pov seats and radio casette! i hope

What i did with my orion was to buy an MOT failure (van as it happens) then i had a running example and knew everything worked. i could then take it apart in my own order, label everything as it came off ( a big help when i did the loom) and i wasn't troubleshooting too much at the end. I got two plugs mixed up on the back of the block and once i'd swapped those round she fired straight up.

I wouldn't recommend doing it any other way unless you've had a turbo before as they really a different beast to any other CVH. trust me you'll know them inside out within a month as they really are quite tempramental unless they've been setup recently.

Yes, thats called ringing and is most definately illegal. the most you can hope for is an RS turbo replica unless you use the good shell to repair the turbo one.

easy enough to do
if ur swopping from one esc to another normally all the holes are already on all the models so it jus bolts straight on

Personally I'd wonder why anyone would want to convert anything to mfi.
My pampered baby is now being called that piece of shit in the garage.
No rhyme or reason to the problems it gives.
Logic flies out the window and I'ts all down to 20 year old wiring that's
long since been fried methinks.

TBH you both have a point, 20+ Year old everything, how many wires will break internally when changing those looms over?!
I think with the price of todays standalone management your bettter of going EFI straight away with a fresh ECU and loom, got no worries then about old faulty shit and can see exactly what your engine is doing too should any of your sensors be playing up etc..

As karlos has said, dont even bother buying an erst, just get a zetec, and stanalone efi, do a more modern conversion, it will make more power, more reliably, and probably cost less too!
