Paid my car tax today, and I was just wondering how they work it out? is it through the emissions from your MOT or do they have an car average?
Also, what new car falls into the £945 bracket?!?! sod that.

pre march 2001 it goes on engine size
after march 2001 it goes on emmisions stated by the manufacturer
2005 ish hence there was a reshuffle to charge stupid ammounts more.
theres a list on the gov website with the tax brackets and emmisions brackets, just google it.

Basically what Phil said but it's only cars made after march 2007 I believe that get hit on the mega tax(above 250 g/km iirc),like range rover v8's etc.
Hadn't realised they've put it up that high now,I know there were a few Korean people carriers etc that were being charged £450 per year due to high emissions, think they were only 2.0l petrols as well!!!
A few that got caught up were landrover freelanders, beetle automatics and even the little sport Ka was something like £250 per year!!
