where can i get plugs for engine sensors etc?
I need 2 plugs for st170 coolant temp sensors.
Also need one for the fog lamp in the bumper. One of the cables snaped off right at the plug so i cant solder it back on but I might go to the local scrappy with a pair of wire cuters
After soldering wires together is heat shrink good enough to keep water/moisture out?
I have seen some cars where the wire has just had insulation tape then the copper turns black and you end up cutting the wire back to expose fresh cable.
Also are 12v soldering irons any good? or am i better off with one of those gas powerd ones ?

get a 240 v iron, heat shrink is used all over for that application mate so no probs there, as for the plugs, try a local scrap yard, as with most fords you will probably find they are the same as somthing else (for example a zetec mondeo)

They are better for smaller orders than polevolt, I wouldn't bother with s/h they're cheap enough new, 12v irons are fine, use silver solder instead of the normal(now banned) lead/tin or as it's known 60/40.
I've always got new ones of these as well as adhesive lined heatshrink if needed, earth wires will naturally corrode even when covered in proper insulation, it gets in the open end at the terminal and creeps up over the years, make sure the joints if soldered are heatshrunk afterwards not so much for water resistance but to stop them snapping the fluxes used in the solder cause a brittleness where it ends and the joint becomes very brittle here heatshrink stops the vibration/movement that causes snapped wires.
The best flux to use is pine resin, so if you have any pine trees nearby use the resin it's ace.
