why not go mustang cobra 4.6, they are all alloy and 32v, rev to 7000rpm and have 320bhp, or the supercharged 4.6 32v, and use the mustang t56, at least you are then putting a ford v8 in a ford, use the mustang irs diff as well and you have a nice package, better than the ls1, or if you have the money, the gt500 engines are available on ebay.com, i think the sump is the wrong end on the ford engine, but sumps the other way round can be had off ebay as well

size wise a ford 32v cobra lump is a bit bigger ,than the ls1 ,

pound for pound the ls series give a better bang for your buck ,

rich , drop me a pm , ive looked into this alot as contemplated it for the mk 3 ( may still do it after a year with the yb )

theres sump kits from the usa that save alot of the cutting and hacking of the 2wd crossmember ,

but tim garringtons fitted a ford mod 32v lump in his escos in the resto section , and the cheeseman escos's both run ls motors ,

drop me a pm if you want any more info sausage !!!

Mate of mine is currently installing an LS1 into a Gp 4 Mk 2 shell, had to revrse the sump to make it fit.

Should be special when he gets it finished, 400BHP n/a in something well under 1000kg. He's using a 2wd Cossie diff and some of the beam BTW.

theres a stock cast oil pan available as a replacement kit ,

basically its shallower at the front and the sump section is further back

it was designed to give more clearence to retro fit the ls series into older cars where cross memeber and rack clearance is an issue ,

with one of these and imo the minorest bit of modding and making up your own engine mounts , the ls will slide straight into a cos engine bay ,

lol dont get me started , still tempts me every day lol

Running it as it came out of the wrecked Monaro. Got some huge headers on it too.

Was out in a mates New VXR8 at Rockingham a few weeks ago, that was very quick and sounded superb.

you can carb them as a retro fit with msd ignition ,

alternatively , just run it on the standard management , just make sure you get the fly by wire throttle pedal ,

a straightforward enough fit to a cossie if you can manage a conversion lol

im sticking a LS1 into my MK1 escort. 4-500hp with the right mods, on a carb, so no ecu/shitty electronics, with a Tremec TKO box. Will go all day long.

for 4-5k you can have a engine+box that just wont break.
