Default Help with HP scanner

Right. I have an HP scanjet 3970 here. I want to scan some negatives. Problem is it only says i can scan documents and photo's. But i have the adaptor. ANd i know i can scan them cos i could on my old PC. which was running XP. The laptop is running Vista. when i look on the PDF on the HP site it says you can choose another option but it is just not there. I have to say i didnt use the original cd as that one is lost. So i got the driver from the website.

From the HP site;

You might find that some features are no longer available when using this basic driver. We are sorry to inform you that a full feature driver for Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition will not be available for your HP product in the future. You can upgrade to an HP product that is fully compatible with Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition if additional features are necessary.

Looks like is a very well known problem.

Someone here has a solution;

http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/mic...ver-vista.html

Set up a Virtual machine within Vista then install and run XP in that with the original drivers.
