Golf mk4 GTI (1.8T)…..been offered one for £2300 on the agreement that I help fix another car

Its done 70k and the timing belt hasn’t been done?

Had an octavia 1.8t and it was a very good car. timing belt was a peice of piss just bought the kit for £90.Would recommend if you went for it to also change the water pump as the impelors are plastic and break up.When i done mine it was in four bits. good engines though

i'm fairly good mechanically just dont have access to lifts just ramps and basic tools, have heard its worth doing the waterpump at the same time....looks like i'm gonna go for the car, seeing another one saturday to get some contrast on this one, decide if its a good idea!

Your more than capable of doing it then i would say. i just jacked up the drivers side and took the wheel of and had plenty of access although this was on an octavia there may have been more room but having seen a timing belt done on my 172 clio nothing is tighter than that.
Good thing to do is to clean out the throttle body as well as these can coak up afer a while just clean with a bit of break cleaner.
