I would get the coolant system cleaned out, it might be a build up of shit inside there causing a blockage.

An old Escort of mine did that, after a coolant change the heater was sound, the amount of shit that came out was grim, it smelt rank too loads of old leaves and stuff.

this happened on my car

was a leaky thermostat hopusing, as the matrix is taken off quite high in the system the engine can run quite happily for months without the full amount of coolant

check your header tank.

my FRS ran for 3 months like this before i noticed the leak from the thermostat housing!!

ginge RS is right. first think check coolant level and thermostat housing for leaks.

the housings are prone to cracking over time and, as i did, you can lose all your coolant in a few seconds!! easy enough job to fix though and they're not too dear from ford although i think you buy an ali one from somewhere as an upgrade.

What the last two said, it's a common problem with the housing cracking due to them being plastic, you can buy alloy ones for this reason.

It has an ally housing so no leaks and all the fluid level seems fine, also no sign of head gasket failure (oil ok water level ok) - i am going on thermostat stuck

if the thermostat was stuck the car would over heat surely??Anyway,I think its the electric valve that controls the flow of hotwater into the matrix that is broken and is in the closed position, hence no water entering the matrix,so ne hot air. This valve is under the windscreen near the wiper linkage.

If the Thermostat is stuck OPEN the engine will be over cooled and as the heater matrix is a mirror the coolant will be cooler here as well and hence the air will be colder as well . Easy way to test is check to see what the coolant temp is if it's low then will be thermostat. I guess the temperature gauge is going to the halfway point, although you can't really tell as these are not like a conventional temperature gauge.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but...

I have a similar issue on an 05 Focus; temperature dial does not affect air temperature: coolant levels ok, no leaks, engine heats up within minutes and hot coolent flows to, and from matrix with no problem. Fan, and AC working fine.

Anyone with ideas? can it be fixed at home?

Thanks

Do you get any air out of any vent?

If yes check ducts haven't fallen off the back of the ones with no air.

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
If you can hear the fan running but no or very bad air flow, the pollen filter may be blocked.

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Is the heater set to demister?,, A/C is put on in demister setting.

All vents have air flow.

Fan is running with no issues, all 4 settings working.

heater is not set to demist and a/c is off.

Having double checked things yerterday;
coolent flows back into the reservoir immediately on a cold start,
one of the tubes (the top one) going through the bulkhead gets hotter quicker than the other.

Now for the 'good' news: I also had a check of the fuses, disconnected something which then shut everything off. Upon reinstation radio has reset and requires code. I'm guessing I'll probably have to get in touch with Ford, but what info would they need and where would I find it?

Thanks for any help...
