i bought myself a 2001 golf gttdi at the weekend,
used it all weekend no probs, then when drivinh home today it cut out and wont restart,
tried all the usual fuses etc(was pissing down with rain so thought something maybe blew)
anyhow none gone, its got plenty compression etc,
didnt cough or splutter or anything just stopped suddenly,
i gave it a quick skoosh of easy start and it'll fire on that and cut out agin,
so seems like a fuel problem?
any common faults i should check?
its very low and bumpy so could be a fuel cut off switch?
if they got 1 any ideas where they are?
thanks guys

What are the dash lights saying?
Can you hear the fuel pump priming?
Only time i've ever had a non start condition on my GT TDi 150 was when the crank sensor died overnight...

lift the rear bench up to reveal the fuel pump and do an igniton cycle or power up the pump and listen if it runs. if it doesnt run check the two outer thick wires of the plug to see if you have battery voltage coming down them (one is + one is - obviously) if you have 12v then the pump is knackered. if you dont have voltage check the fuel pump relay under the drivers side dash. if still no joy then start doing wiring checks to the pump.
if you squirt easy start or similar in an inlet pipe and it fires then its obvious theres lack of fuel. as said above also check the fuel filter but if its been serviced at the correct intervals it shouldnt be blocked.
hope this helps.
