wiring problem on mk5 xr3i cabby .plz help ppl !!
Howdy folk's , just wondering if any one here has some knowledge on these escorts wiring looms ?
my problem is the electric windows ! I have a permanent live wire from the fuse board ( red with brown strip ) it has a female spade connector on the end of it (white single spade) the problem is this 12v live wire was connected to the earth wire that connects the frond drivers door interior light, (was the cause of battery drain over night ) now i have unplugged it from the earth wire i have no battery drain but also the front windows dont work at all ! when i reconnect it the battery will flatten over night but windows will work !
any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers in advance !

I am surprised that didn't cause a dead short, just goes to show that a little knowledge is dangerous!
I would start with the basics I.E finding out what the different wires do for the windows and then work from there, the wiring sounds very dangerous, normally there is no connection between the interior light switch and the windows, only thing I can think is does it/has it had a full closure alarm fitted?
Look at the window switches and see if they have had additional wires spliced in.

Hi , no there is f/c alarm just the standard ford job at the mo, its a k reg so no immobiliser, have been wondering if at some point some one had one fitted or a remote start alarm as all ign wires have been spliced into !
will chase the window loom and chack it for any splicing/bad joints !
just seems funny that it dont blow a fuse when the live wire connects to the earth ! will play some more and let you know how it goes.
cheers !

one possibility an auto elec gave me was the windows should drop a ilttle when the door opens and close back up under the roof seal when the doors close ! ?? i know some of the old bm 2 doors do it and a few other cars that has no metal frame around the window ! do fords do that ?
Depends how it's shorting really if it's a dead short then it would blow a fuse, are you sure it's not an earth output for something or is it defiantly live?
I wouldn't know if that is right about the windows.
That is the trouble with these old Fords, it probably has had many a alarm system in it's life all being wired in differently so you end up with butchered wiring.
