Gear change for Sierra Cosworth
Hi there.
I have the following problem, my car is a Sierra Cosworth from 88, now I love my car and I love my wife, none of them I would like to change
My wife though is not able to drive with stick shift, and the car of course is stick shift, she wants an automatic shift car, and I don't want to sell my Cosworth.
I heard of people changing manual to automatic on a Cosworth, is there any one who heard this before and who could point me in any direction to get this one done.
Thanks for any info.
Chris

Yes and in fact the Cosworth was available as automatic and was converted to order by Harford Motors in Oxford and are very rare.
Can't remember the name of the box as not familiar with the autos but think it was something like C35.

it would be cheaper to train said wife with the use of a manual gearbox mate, lol, also i think an auto box would spoil the drive of the cosworth IMO. All granada cosworths were autos though saying that.
The cossie(sierra) used the A4LD box, a basically a C3 with 4th gear(overdrive) added as an extension housing, I used one behind a 2.1 pinto for years, not much in the way of box tune up goodies.
Best people to speak to are ALDERS Automatics, they built the auto box for a customer on his car a cossie sierra with 800bhp, he does use it mainly for 1/4 mile, but they will certainly be able to help you.
The hardest part is going to be the shift itself, as A4LD is vac controlled, but consider making it paddle shift like the auto boxes in ferraris etc, if this can be done to the box, as it certainly isn't electronic to start with would be expensive though.
Another option is to have a manual auto, ie no clutch pedal just move lever.
