I would recommend you check out some Ferodo DS2500's excellent from cold and very good on track,

most the lads on the RSOC forum in the mk1 focus rs section are running these,

I take the anti squeal shims off the pads when I use my EBC yellows, I have honestly NEVER heard a peep out of them, most squeal isn't down to the pad anyway, but even as said without the anti squeal shims I get zero squeal.
I have used mintex, DS range, EBC, recently, I wouldn't say any pad was more prone to noise than any other in my experience, but the pads do have different characteristics, mintex I find soft and very very dirty dust wise, work well from cold, DS2500 take warming up to get the best, or anything half decent, not very dusty, but ZERO feel, in spite of getting all ferodo products FREE I use EBC yellowstuff, they work better from cold than redstuff, and are cleaner than all the others.
Pads/brakes are very personal, maybe try to get a drive of a mates car with pads in it that you want if you can.
I threw away a 500 mile set of DS2000 and DS2500 pads, but gave the 400 mile old mintex away.
Any will be a big improvement over the std pad though.

I've got EBC Redstuff on mine (ST170 tho so thats 50 odd hp less speed to loose). They seem pretty brutal to me and I've never heard a squeak from them. as for taking a pounding, they seemed to hold up to heavy continuous wear when I was in the Alps without any issues.
