hi does any body know if its very rare for the head gasket to go on the frs mk1?
mine has gone and was told by the garage that they dont normaly go. it has gone and hopfuly i havent killed the engine.
as some of you may remember the thread about my car overheating due to a burst heater matrix pipe https://passionford.com/forum/genera...lp-update.html, whats the likley hood of the head being warped or even worse the engine being fuked? it did get very hot as the light came on and the engine cut out.

any help would be very appreciated

impossible to say about it being damaged further without striping it but you would be very unlucky if it had!

 

how do they know its the headgasket?

if they tell you water is ghetting into the engine, check the chargecooler unit as theyre common faults, they leak water straight into your intake giving the same signs as a headgasket

 

unlucky as its unlikely or just good old plain unlucky lol

i diagnosed(sp) it as head gasket for the fact that water was getting in the bores and into the oil. could all this be because of cool charger and also when i has it ticking over after fixing the pipe the engine sounded brilliant with no smoke at all

how could i tell if the cool charger is broken
