Default Pembrey yesterday, fantastic day out

Just thought I'd say a quick thankyou to the welsh lads for putting on a great day yesterday at Pembrey.

What a fantastic little track, had a brilliant time getting to know the circuit. Been doing trackdays for so long now that its not that often I get to go to a track for Ive not done before so it made a good change starting from scratch there.
Circuit is SO much better than it looks on a map or on videos, from the hairpin bend at the end of the main straight you are basically in bends non stop right through till almost back at the start of the straight again as the corners all really flow from one into the next so its a challenging little track to get right.
Had a great little battle with a couple of lads there in fiestas who were really going well and racing very closely with each other, trackdays are always more fun when you find some people in similar cars to really try against

Only downside was not being allowed passengers, not really sure what was going on with that? Thats the only thing that might stop me going back there TBH

Good show too considering how far west it was, was quite impressed at the turnout.

Bit of a long shot really, but dont suppose anyone got any pics of me or the mrs in my clio on the track?

Was a good crack. The no-passenger thing sucked, but i enjoyed the circuit as i started to get a feel for my shed again. Rewarding day.

Lee, was yours the black car?
If so nice meeting you mate, that cars got some real potential I reckon

Im kind of not too hopefull on the pictures front as obviously a clio isnt exactly likely to interest many people at an RS day, but if your mate did have any of it even in the background of another shot or something that would be fantastic.

Cheers mate it's getting there. Been in a situation of taking a step forward to take two backwards on the past couple of days out. Bit frustrating but progression and a learning curve. Changed loads, so was good to just get some laps in and rebuild my confidence with it. I'll have it out at Trax, probably a day at Combe, then i'm 50/50 on a strip and rebuild over winter....just to neaten wires, connections and maybe treat myself to power steering.

The corsa electric power steering is a good option, thats what I'll be swapping the clio over to when we do its stripdown and rebuild next year (its normal hydraulic power steering at the moment)

No,it was the white 24v one.Only managed the afternoon stint as it was a last minute decision to have a go.Me and my mate hadnt been on track before so werent going to well! But had fun, plenty of sideways action round the hairpin and would have kept on if we had more petrol.
Thanks to the fast ford boys for a lend of the 10mm spanner and snipes to cut the wires when my starter stuck on.
My mate tookpics of most of the cars on track so chances are he may have a photo of yours,il find out.
Someone said the fast ford photographer was there taking pictures?

Basically from turn one to turn 6, you're constantly cornering one way or the other or moving into position for a corner, really involving drive, you dont actually notice any of the straights between the corners through that whole section as its quite high speed for most of it and you are busy trying to get back from one side of the track to the other for the next bend etc, so you have to really work to tie it together compared to somewhere like combe where each bend is more or less totally seperate from the last.

no passengers puts me off going though
Yes I think most people were pissed off at that, there was nothing mentioned about that being the case in advance of booking either, so was a disapointment on the day.
My mrs for example had never driven my car before and like all trackday cars with solid mounts etc there are a few knocks and rattles from it, so it would have been good to sit next to her and tell her which ones she doesnt need to worry about and if there is a new one she does, not to mention just being able to say "its ok you can go flat out through this bit" as she isnt aware of the cars limits yet or experienced enough to feel confident looking for them, so it was a far less useful day to her than it would have been if I could have gone in the car with her.

In fairness to them they got the 2003/2004 welsh champion and 1800cc fastest lap record holder (ie someone who really knows the track) to take her out FREE OF CHARGE, one of their circuit school cars and showed her the track as a passenger and she said that was very useful (awesome idea doing that I thought) but it still didnt teach her anything about my car like me sitting next to her could of.

If we were just allowed passengers it would have been pretty much the perfect day IMHO

Aye, i'm looking at that, or even Hydraulic from a cheapo Si for direct fit, i need a shorter rack to help my geometery and something which gives less turns lock to lock would be nice, i believe these do....better than nothing, which is my current set up.

i enjoyed the day, was praying my bodge on the brake caliper never failed

good to see you both (car and mrs) chip

the passenger thing, is not normal for pembrey, i did pembrey last summer and we had passengers, so why we couldnt yesterday is beyond me,

already posted my annoyance to this on the RS site.

LEE2COSSIES, just some advice, you need attend a briefing, and understand the part of allowing fast cars past,

late braking into the hair pin on the inside line ISN'T the best way,

i was right behind the green pug you did this too, and could have been nasty.

the hairpin you need to take so wide to start off with to get a good exit. only time you need to keep close to inside and brake late is when you defending.

what times were people getting?

TBH mate she was going so slowly and on such random lines that she was a bit of a liability and I just wanted to get away from her as soon as possible before someone crashed into me while I was trying to avoid her she didnt seem to know where the hell she was going so when she started crawling along the outside of the track on the left I thought maybe she was confused about which side she was meant to be letting people pass on so I just gave her a wide birth and went past on that side with plenty of space, couldnt really do a lot else other than just slow right down and sit on her bumper which I felt would intimidate her so I just cleared off out her way and got on with my session at the first point it was clearly safe to do so, apologies though if that shook her up, certainly wasnt intended to.

I was doing 43 seconds, never been there before though so no idea if that is good or not?

Or maybe that was Ayrton Senna when he set the lap record and in fact I have no idea what I did as we werent allowed cameras or passengers and I dont have a data logger so with noone next to me to ask to stopwatch it and no video to look at I have no way of knowing, doubt I was anything like your race pace though if I cant match you at combe where I know the track a lot better!

Lesley had a good time in my car but was a bit annoyed i couldnt sit next to her to tell her where she was going right and wrong etc.
Great circuit for beginners other than the lack of passenger to instruct.
We'd like to do another day there where passengers are allowed so let me know if one comes up!

I enjoyed watching the track action, Nick Staggs MK1 with the bda was an absolute weapon. 205's were having a bit of battle which was good to watch.

Was a great day, and a great show

was looking through for pics of your clio, chip, but it seems i didn't get any. sorry

some pics from the track...

overall, i was happy with how i did. just reminded me that a good road car doesn't make for a good track car in the slightest. and a poor driver doesn't work on either
