A van will prob cost more as it will be commercial insurance, compare it to the price of an estate car, that might be a cheaper option??

Because it takes 3 mins to put a post on here and maybe 15 on hold to some insurance Company, plus its a forum which needs people to post , compared to some stuff on here this is a sensible one

That's called "fronting" and if you ever had to make a claim the insurance could tell your step-dad to do one.

Besides, why would anyone want a van that gets a lower speed limit - the Connect is NOT a car-derived van.

who said that i am the main driver of the van?
technically its his van because its in his name and insurance is to, i just paid for it
and i don't mind having a van that comes in the lower limit class, it doesn't matter, the vans don't go super fast anyway, well unless its got a cossy 4x4 on it..

You implied it!

"I've got a Transit Connect"
"It's my van that I paid for"

The person who pays for the vehicle is the owner - the V5 actually says that the registered keeper is not the owner.

If you need to claim, where is his "Beneficial Interest" in a van that he neither owns nor uses?
And that's before the insurers start talking about risk-profile for a young inexperienced driver versus a more mature and experienced one.

Your van, your call, but I don't approve of some people circumventing the rules when that then has an impact on the premiums I have to pay (something like Ł30 each) for uninsured drivers, and that is what you could end up being in the event of a claim.

Yes as i said i did pay for it so it is my van as you said, although i am not the main driver i use it from thursday - saturday night/sunday morning and my step dad drives it during the week to work etc.
I am insured on the cover and i am not bending the rules as the van is registered is in his name, he is the main driver and i am a named driver.
that is right is it not?
there is no record to say that the van is mine surely if the registered keeper is in his name it technically belongs to him whilst registered?

some people seem very touchy on here, i am not like the "stereotype" 18 year old that dashes around in a corsa/106/saxo thinking they are a ferrari.
i use the van for work purposes, to transport my disco gear from A to B - usually around 25 miles a week if, not to race and throw around.

anyway off topic.... get a transit connect - it's a nice van to drive.
