Just insured my new daily driver yesterday, and it was cheaper to have it insured as being parked on my driveway than parked in my garage

its a joke - i have given up now and will just have to settle with the renewal - ive only got 1 speeding conviction of SP30 with no points and a 1 month ban - no accidents either.

my renewal was more 367 but when i phoned up the company they reduced it to 335 so not too bad but this should be less than 300 for this type of car surely.

I can get insured on a genuine 3dr cossie for less - just dont make sense

Ive had to start a fresh policy for a second car and finally gone through M&S of all people. On their website the quote was just over 2k for a corsa!! Via gocompare with M&S and exact same details its £500. Cant work it out, naturally took the 500 bucks option and got paperwork through other day, all sorted. Cant fathom the 1.5k difference. Im sure its a random number generator at the other end.

i used gocompare and had quotes of 275 so thought i better phone the company and double check - ended up going thru all the questions again and the final quote came to over 600 quid

pay £200 a year for my saph all mods declared, agreed value 8k etc

my octavia vrs, worth probably 3.5k with a exhaust, induction kit and wheels declared costs me over 600 a year!

saph is on classic policy though so limited miles etc which i suspect maybe the case with your 3dr quotes?

John - thats exactly what i mean - a group 20 car is cheaper than all others

guess it makes insuring a cossie more desireable then

It's trying to tell you to get another Cossie.
You do realise that driving an astra, people will look at you the same as you were wearing a gimp mask

How do Nath - been a while mate.

i have a replica im building so not sure how that will work out with regards to insurance.

as for the astra is an ex police car with the decals still quite visible so people do look at you strangely anyway

Are you in berks mate? would be good to catch up

I would imagine it's down to mileage, and that they are starting to realise people who run 20+ year old cars like cossies tend to look after them, so less time on the road is less risk from other people's actions.
The astra costs me £130 a year and the cossie around £500, but I have unlimited mileage, and can do 1000 a week in a very busy week, although I love the oomph I actually prefer the astra 1.4 auto, as I'm fed up changing gears now!!

the mondeo costs me £445 through aplan

the funny thing was that aplan gave me a renewal, from the same company, that was £540, so i said i'd have to call around as it was over £100 more this year

they came back to me with the girl on the phone saying "we rang around and got you a better quote thought this company"

i didn't have the heart to tell her it was the same company

but how can one company give you a quote and then, a week later, it goes down by nearly 20%?

even funnier was that the price comparison sites couldn't beat that quote or a STANDARD car

or the fact that 2 years ago it was cheaper for me to use it to commute to and from work than to leave it parked up, £400 for coumiting, £600 for not coumuting
