As per title - just wondered what products I need and how hardcore i need to get with it to get a decent shine into it if that is actually even possible.
The exhaust in not new - has been on the car for a while and it would be great to get something close to a mirror shine into it but i guess that is asking a bit much.

Tailpipe and rear box or whole exhaust???
If tailpipe and Rear box then AutoSol fed on with a rag in circular motion till your arm hurts is very good and shines like a mirror.
For the whole exhaust i would hazard a guess at using a fine wet and dry with a machine, followed by Autosol...Hard graft for the whole thing, but a few hours work if just doing the rear less heated part!!!

If it's really bad and the front pipe has gone Blue get an angle grinder and put a wire cup brush on it, then soak the exhaust in WD40 and skim over it with the angle grinder.
DO NOT use angle grinder on the polished boxes or the tailpipe, ONLY the main pipework.
Then wet n' dry sand paper ultra fine THEN use Solvol autosol and it will be like a mirror.
Don't waste autosol on your exhaust to begin with you'll use tubes of the stuff and it's expensive
