starter motor trouble
when i bought the car the guy told me that when the car gets hot the starter wont turn over, didn't stop me from buying the car tho as it mint.
anyways when i finally got to driving the car it started up fine first time, drove to the petrol station, filled up and the starter never attemped to turn over but it bump fine. next morning car started up first time no problem, drove for about 15-20 minutes turned the car off and same problem again, so bumped it and started fine, few days later the starter completly packed in.
so i put a new starter on, started fine and started first time everytime i turned it off for that day. the next day went to petrol station filled up and wouldnt start again. but then the next day the new starter motor completly packed up. (lasted 3 days)
so took it back and they gave me another new 1 poped that 1 on and again this 1 has lasted me 3 days aswell.
i have now actually bin through 4 starter motors and each 1 has burnt out, any got any ideas what could be causing them to keep burning out??
regards john

The starter motor on these IIRC is unfortunately right below the turbo so this does not help at all especially if you have a non standard turbo, I.E a T3. I would look at getting a heat shield between it and the starter, this is assuming it is a FRST?

so what i have done so far is heat wraped my down pipe so its doubled over rewired all the wires, renew all earths and put the new starter on.
started first time last nite, no problems. drove it to work this morning, about half hour drive turned it off and went to see if it would turn over and nothing there. lights go little bit dimmer on the dash like theres power goin somewhere.
brother thinks it mite be the immobiliser playing up when it gets warm.
any ideas??
john
Doubt it's the immobiliser TBH, the fact the lights go dim shows power is being drawn, have you tried tapping the start motor gently with a mallet etc it may be jamming, alternativly select top gear and rock the car back and forth.
