I don't have a big garden - 4m wide by roughly 5m long, and the previous owner, a single man like me, wasn't a gardening fan, also like me
So he made it low maintenence and just basicially threw shingle down all over it, leaving a couple flower beds along the sides with a bush, and two connifers.
I fucking hate shingle
I like to come out barefoot, and thats not comfortable on shingle. Fucking stuff gets dragged into the house. Fucking hate it.
So since I had a couple days off, I did this;

50 slabs later (well 48 cos I need to cut two to fit round the drainpipes), 4 bags of sand and 4hrs sweating like a pedophile in a playground I have this;

4m x 2m almost level patio
I wasn't going at it full on proper, with hardcore and cement etc - just leveled out the soil best as poss, laid down some anti weed matting, covered in sand and malleted them in as close to flat as poss. Some are a little wobbly, and there is height descrepency on quite a few (most
) but fuck it, cost me £80 all in for the slabs and sand and I've never done any of this type of stuff before, so I'm quite chuffed with myself

Cheers Nath - I'm a windscreen fitter, not a builder. Personally I think I did fucking well as it's pretty much level (as in not on the piss) and I can walk on it. Can't really ask for much more

Looks good mush,put sand over the top and brush it into the gaps as well,finish it off nice.a builder would have charged you about £500 for that and it wouldn't have looked any better.couple of planters now and you'll have a proper little retreat.

I brushed some sand into the gaps on a few stones - then ran out
Gonna get a bag of finer sand, as the sharp sand I had wasn't great for it anyway...
Mal - fooking HATE gardening!
