Trying to ask two question in one topic.

The RAC, I'm a member and I'm looking to buy a car thats local to me (Has Tax/Mot) but the engine has shat its load, if I bought it could I get the RAC to tow it home for me is I pretend I've not just bought a car with a broken engine? My cover is for me and not a named car.

Vauxhall engine question, Corsa C 01 1.2, this uses the Z12XE engine right? I've been told by a local scrap yard they do two types, 'Twin port' and 'Non Twin Port' - Could someone confirm this and explain the differences (Visually) so I can check.

They do the two types as said, the 3 cyl engine is a suzuki engine, and a bit of a disaster tbh, huge problems esp timing chain wise, they rattle big time and break often, even when looked after, not the quickest thing around either.

Its a 4 cylinder and Iv just been told the TwinPort was after the facelift (Around 54 reg) so I should be ok.

Anyone comment on the RAC question?

Hi mate,car must have tax for the rac to collect it and it could be a bit of a long old wait with them too but it's free after all!!the engine you want is often referred to as an x12xe also fitted in the older corsa from about 1998 onwards.be careful with these motors as although their a nice torquey engine and brill on fuel they suffer from headgasket probs,I've just changed the motor in one now and it's a really easy job on the c model,drop it all down in one,four bolts hold on the whole subframe!!! They're really popular cars and sell well,but check for any traces of Mayo whatsoever under the oilcap,there is a problem with the left side gasket where the water pump,timing chain sits.behind that is an oilway which is only seperated from the water pump by a poxy rubber gasket which deteriorates and causes oil/water mix.this is relativley harmless but your header tank gets seriously mayoed up and looks terrible.the gasket I believe is a piece of piss to do with the engine OUT so worth doing.totally agree with tabetha regarding the three cylinder 1.0,possibly the worst engine ever put in a vauxhall....mind you the 1.6 diesel of the 1980's was dreadful too!!!

 

Oh while I remember,you need to swap the block on the side of the engine where the engine loom meets the car loom as that's where the immobiliser is.it literallylooks like a multiplex wiring block but it's programmer to the key so worth replacing.I've got a lot of bits for one of those if you get stuck mate.

 

These engines are just shite buy a proper car with a good engine.

 

right mate, the twin port has a different inlet manifold, its an eco design and of 'snail' shape. note the twin port and standard designs can not be interchanged as the heads are different

 

They do have a bit of a bad name but I actually really like the drive of them for a small motor,really nippy and good on fuel.I had a 1.4 8valve version years ago with 156k on the clock and it went like fuck!!!only failed mot on a track rod!!!I've got a 98 one for sale now and tbh it's done 112k but it honestly drives amazingly well,flew the ticket as well.must have power steering though as their wank without it,I would say their far better than the equivalent fiesta although I still think the polo mk3 is the best of the small cars along with the Ka,sure they rust but they just keep going.

 

the engine he's on about is only in the corsa c onwards bud, your referring to crappy corsa b's

Certainly not fella,it's the 1.2 16valve engine found in late corsa b's and early corsa c's and the meriva too.I broke a corsa c Sxi 2003 model in feb and the engines in my workshop next to the 98 engine out of the corsa b,look identical to me.running gear wise the two cars are vastly similar,driveshafts the same,gearboxes all bolt straight in.Engine code x12xe from memory.

 

My wife and i have had a mk4 and have a mk5 fiesta now that have the 12.5 16v engines in.They are a cracking motor.The fiesta we have now has been spot on.Its been all over the country with use.

Mk4/5 do rot quite badly but 1.25 motor is great though but needs regular 5/30 oil changes to keep them mint.I've had loads of both now and I'd say overall the corsa is a better car but that's just personal opinion.

 

just take your mbr card and 2 forms of id mate and get a lift so your not in another car that gives us a way of saying it ant your car. has long has its taxed you will get recovery i am a rac patrol

 

If any use when my bro bought his Vectra estate the alt tensioner bearing failed and left us stuck 60miles away. His mate had RAC and phoned saying he was in the car driving it and they came out, they were going to fix it but as it was a V6 they binned the idea off and called the recovery.

 

I agree they rot a bit.I change the oil in the fiesta once a year and thats it.

 

Like I said,only personal pref not slating either car.our sister plant in Bridgend used to make that engine and it was a fuck up by the dealers not to tell people to use the 5/30 oil as it was synthetic and expensive,but essential for those engines. the cause of a lot of them failing prematurely was people putting good old 20/50 in them,the old bastards mainly,thinking it was still a fucking 20year old pinto!!!
