zvh engine
when i bought my escort turbo, it had a zvh engine in it, its never really run right so ive decided to take it apart and have a look, as its a zetec bottom end, it has the oil return galleys, these havent been plugged, so would this be why my engine aint running right?? whats the effect of not having them plugged and running it with them how it iss? many thanks
all depends what running problems you were getting mate?? for what reason did you decide to take the engine apart?? and why do you think the running problems are going to be internial??
the underside of the head is black, the plugs are also black, these are all so new because i changed them and havent run it much, i dont think it has a decomp plate
i shall get some pictures in a minutee

was the exaust manifold gasket blowing?? did you do a compression test? or leak down test? befor removing the head? sure the missfire wasent down to plugs or duff ignition system??

If its running on three cyclinders and then kicks back over to 4, it could possibly also be down to cam/tappets. My tappets over piston 4 were knackered, they wouldn't kick in until the car was warm, causing it to mis fire when cold. Changed the tappets and worked fine after, (not saying this would be the same in your case but worked for me)
my engine also seems to get hot really quickly when left idling could this also be something to do with the fact the engine doesnt run right??
sorry for all the questions
thanks

or down to headgasket failure or water pump failure, resulting in loss of water. Check head gasket, pump, hoses etc. If it was head gasket you would typically get gunk building up (mayo like) and your header tank would have bits of gunk in it also (where oil has mixed with water)
from them pictures it would seem that it was running rich probably choking your engine making it seem like it was running on 3 you should of done some investigating with the engine whole first as it all looks ok apart from what i said
i tried n tried to get it running right and couldnt work it out, i took it apart to see what was happening n found the oil galleys havent been blocked off, once ive solved that problem i shall put it back together n have another lil play with itt, what happens if the oil galleys dont get blocked off??
cheers

i would check the cam and lifters as well, if a lifter has decomp'd or the profile has worn considerably I would guess that once the engine is up to temp and the oil visc has thinned they would not function correctly and the valves would not open hence the 3 cylinder synario. Whip out the cam and lifters and take a pic.
I have a sneaky feeeling this may be the problem. Never seen a zvh with the oil galleries unblocked??? though it would leak everywhere?? Very strange, makes you think what else has not been done to normal practice ???

i haad an mfi erst which had the same characteristics as yours, this was buggered cam and followers, simple fix but that block needs them galleries sorting, give sitech/jamsport/area 6 a bell if you get chance as these are the people who can give you the right answers straight away to save time on your behalf
ok thanks very much for your help
how much would i be looking at roughly to get these blocked and i would think it needs skimming as well?? if soo how much roughly would that cost me
