Default holed intercooler

ok the inevitable has happened, and they've reversed into my front nearside.
the damage looks not to bad, though the driving light has spanked up, and buckled the bonnet, causing the bonnet catch to hole the intercooler (pace)

question is, should the car still run, what with a massive leak (as it does!)

and as a temp fix, can i use some epoxy filler, to plug the gap, until i get a new cooler...
many thanx

helen

I have had many intercoolers in the past that have had that stuff and chemical metal used on them and never had a problem, but to be on the safe side have it welded up

No it shouldnt but if it does then dont worry just plug the hole up with some epoxy filler or chemical metal or weld it up

Would cover the hole with a peace off metal n use some meatel chemical stuff to bond it at bit. Not putting any near the entance of the hole. You dont want anything beeing stucked in even though it would be blown out.

Could get hold of a standard intercooler for about 10-20 quid? Just a thought

You can drive it but you'll just have a massive boost leak, so easier just to drive off boost!
If your MFI then it will probably run/idle badly as you'll have an air leak, EFI no real probs.

it should run as Karlos said, i wouldnt be filling or glueing anything if i were you, not worth the risks if something did get sucked in there. could you not just get it towed or get a standard cooler fitted for a while?
