Default My scania chassis repaint, in a week!!!! Now finished!!!

Bit of a different project is this one, ive had the truck booked in on the 5th of this month for shot blasting, and painting, so i thought i would take pictures of the progress

These pictures were taken on saturday the 5th, i basically had to strip everything down, mudgaurds, wingtops catwalks, front bumpers, etc, so the shot blaster can gain access to the rust!!

Hey mate, i wouldnt sand blast it imo. We did a trailer at work then painted it and had no end of problems with valves going tits up. Ended up changing every valve on the trailer just to get the brakes and extender to work again.

So when we did our big daf we stripped it down and used a needle gun, took longer but was a better soloution in the end.

Jsut a bit of advice as it turned out to be a fuckin expensive spray on the trailer

to be honest, i am mildly concerned about the down side on shotblasting, but i was looking at the guys work before, and his blasting is spot on

Wiring and airpipes are moved as much as possible, and a steady hand is needed The fella doing it said he always shits himself when he builds the air up in the truck after blasting

Other than a full strip down, i would say about 5% of the chassis will be unreachable, but the cost, and the downtime to do that would be impractical, remember, owner drivers dont make any money.

Graceland they do rust more so wing poles, bumper brackets etc, never the cab, unless had accident repairs, usual cause of rust is vehicle not being washed regular or looked after

Spose when it's on the road pretty much 24/7 then it's subject to everything the councills drop on them too - Shame really

Although having said that, when I was a PSV fitter a fair few years ago, the Series 3 and 4 Scania chassied buses were solid with the only corrosion on the aluminium panels. Only downside was electrical gremlins galore and overheating due to the radiator being in the back with the engine

Other than the few niggles I always found them very easy to work on and very sraight forward when it came to heavy maintanance (IE, gearbox and engine removals)

I'm glad I aint at it now too Stu - The shit I worked on ranged from old Mk1 and Mk2 nationals, Leyland Lynx's right through to Olympians, MCW Mk2's, Series 3/4 Scania to the newest in the fleet being Volvo B10b, Dennis Dart 6BT and DAF SB220

All fucking crap to work on apart from the Scania

Very interesting topic - never realised this sort of work was carried out on trucks. Will look forward to the next update.
