the only sticking point is that the Sapph has to go to provide funds towards it.

but....... 800 miles in 1 year in the sapph hardly justifies the insurance!

I have a Zetec Turbo Westfield.
Best move I ever made.
There is no comparison with a cossy round a track. The seven type cars are essentialy race cars for the road.

I'm building a Dax rush. Not as well known as the westy or caterham but very often fitted with cossies and V8's as they're both supported by the factory. Even a standard engine such as a zetec will be quicker round the track than a cossie and much more fun....
Good fun kit cars have been in the MK Cars Indy,
M8 built this one first:

With a ZX9 Ninja engine in it,cost him just over Ł4000 to build, clocked up 4000 miles in it then sold it for Ł7300
Building this one now,with a R1 engine

Driven a Cat, infact their built not so far from where I am now.
Couple of things.
How tall are you?
How fat are you?
If you're tall then you might find you cant put the roof on and drive it easily. Obvious problem if you are fat
Handle great, Doughnut easily and controllable (first donuts I ever did were in it!) Not that cheap mind for what you get.
If you cant fit in one but still want something thats bike engined, RWD, and cheap for a track tool/ fast road then consider this.

If you get a seven type car, whatever make, i'd recomend going along to the local Westfield club meetings (www.wscc.co.uk if you've not been on it yet).

I got my first Westfield in May 2004. Using it daily. Had an RST before that.
Westy is great fun and so easy to work on. I love it!
I would research all the different 'Seven' type cars and decide what you want, how mechanically competent you are and what you can afford.

I had an Eldon , 7 Replica thing for a very short time , it was a TVR tuscan v8 racengine powered thing with a T5 g/box , sounded unbelievable and took your breath away above 40 mph ! Frightening driving position , low down , no-one sees you - more dangerous than a Bike i reckon , at least your high up with lights on and can be seen !!

During an old school project we popped down to the Caterham production unit and all got a ride. I'd been on quite a few bikes previously (as a passanger), but these little things rock. It had a 1.8 16v or a 2.0 16v Rover unit, bloody great fun. Arse sat 3" off the ground, being so low and open, really feel the speed. 120 was quite enough down stakies way outside Dartford. Got back, got out with a BIG
The way the are made, everything loitering about was good to see too. Wish i'd paid more attention lol.
