Cossie head identification.
Dave, yeah it's definitely a 4x4 head
I'm specifically interested to know if this would be a 1990 head with that number, or maybe 92> 'greentop' head, if they are different????

well, the Ford Workshop manual quotes cast marking for 4x4 head as V89HF6090AA ...
So is this one I've got technically an Escort one then?
Are there any differences between the 4x4 and Escort heads?

I will do a search now for one of my previous posts.....about YB prod numbers/dates.......Got a feeling the 4x4 Saph and Big Turbo Es Coss heads are the same.....as all these were built as one batch.
Bernie,
If you mean YB engines, then this is the information I have:
YBB - October 85 to July 89....18,990 produced (5,60 3dr and 13,390 4 door -250 excess to build requirements)
YBD - May to August 87......525 produced (RS500)
YBG - October 89 to November 91.......12,515 produced
YBJ - dates as YBG Euro 1504 emission standards (green cam cover)
YBT - March 92 to Feburary 94......5,186 produced (Escort Big Turbo)
Total units built (up to 1994) 36,691 (add 525 RS500 type for a total of 37,216)
My book (The Cosworth Fords - Jeremy Walton) was published
in 1994....so no further information. From then onwards
they produced the YBP (small turbo Es Cos) engine.

Nice one Doug,
There's the answer to that mystery then! Head's been replaced at some stage... would be interesting to know why, but it's been on there a long time and standard thickness when i took it off..
I wonder what the differences are? Seems odd to change the cast number just for the sake of it if it's otherwise identical..
