Clutch rattle
Upon dismantling my 200K yb engine today I found as expected some of the springs on the friction plate were moving around and made a real racket when going over about 3500.
It is a borg and beck diaphragm and friction plate, has anyone else had the same issues with B&B friction plates, was plenty of life in plate, you can actually shake the plate and hear it rattle!!

It's got a lip on each bore, had 2 centre rings on diffrent pistons upside down!!
All crank journals look perfect, don't even need a polish really, rods are good apart from one that has some little end wear, head is perfect, haven't stripped the oil pump yet, but if ok will go again, most likely with a pressure increase.
If I wanted it only needs ring at a bodge, but I'm keeping it so new pistons it is, going to get valve cutouts on the inlet side, and if needed exhast side, got to mod the sump rocker cover plus other odds and ends, taking the bits to machine shop wednesday.
The only odd thing is the thrust/end float on the crank was excessive even when fitted with new bearings, so will maybe have to grind and hand lap some for a decent fit, see what happens.

I took the engine bits today to the machine shop, got there a bit late, there was a nice girl in a shop on the way I was attempting to chat up, I'm getting too old for this!!
Anyway only 3 journals need a light polish, 1 suspect worn little end, block + 0.5mm when my pistons arrive from Matt Lewis(will order in the morning), then balance the lot, got arp rod bolts and main studs, as well as flywheel, seriously thinking of slotting the flywheel whilst at it for even more weight off, but worried about grenading, existing flywheel weighed 9.12KG, lightened one I have is 6.6, was 8.9KG to start with.
Was going to have it frozen, but with the amount of wear for the mileage not worth it.
My block is a 3233 YBB block, as confirmed in papers/V5 etc is original, and can gaurantee 182,000 miles, 2 years docs missing.

lolpms ya just never know tabs eh!!
You,ve done well by the sounds of it, mine needed 10thou on the crank at half the mileage .
Your flywheel seems extremely light especially at 6.6kg be a nasty mess if it did go , what are they from factory?
what pistons tabs, Mahle?

Yes MAHLE pistons bog std but having inlet cut outs, got call from brian today, seems all is not well, he thinks it may not clear the wear at 0.5mm oversize ha ha, so will just be going for +1.0mm if that is the case, he's going to bore it +0.5 first and see what it's like.
The flywheel weight of the std cossie item is mentally high, no doubt more to do with NCH than go go!!
Most of the rear band has gone, just left enough to support the starter ring, on his advice I didn't have it slotted, I trust him he's 68 and started building engines/machining at age 14, got many many winning engines to his name, one costing over Ł100,000, was for a historic racer, but a lot of stuff made from billet on engine of that one, he's got engine dynos rolling roads etc.
I seem to have lost the 10 thick washers that go under the arp stud/nuts now as can't find anywhere.
GF's car has CL packed up on one door, so got to devote time to that in morning, got moaned at for off roading in me dads 4x4 after he'd just cleaned it ha ha!!
Fix astra then T5 out friday is my plans in morning.

No forgot I was doing a fuel pump rewire today, had fuel pissing everywhere ha ha, owner didn't tighten the banjo's up enough, but another 4wd on the road any day now, he's got a K3 for it as well, going to just get running on L8 for now for mot, then swap over and map.
Box will be out sunday(weather permitting), got new box lined up to go in, but need to get me arse in gear.
I told me dad I was at a roadworks and they were ploughing the field either side so that is why it was a bit mucky/dusty, "must do it different these days then using mud, lying shit" he called me!!
He's got to keep me sweet though as he wants me to do his tappets soon!!

I said just use it you may love 4wd, certainly more relaxing to drive in the wet!!
Took me oil pump apart today, good job I did knackered it was, pressure was still ok, but scoring big time, cleaned up the sump and other parts for taking to steve for some modding, modding the TB for the KA iscv fitment is what I'm doing monday, noticed today the BB clutch had "ap approved" stamped on it!!, had 3 springs rattling when you shake it.
