hi all,
got a focus 18tdci, trying to change the rear brakes pads
i've taken the handbrake cable off the caliper,
removed the outer bolts that allow the caliper to move in/out from the disc
but i cannot get the piston to go back into the caliper, tried the normal things "G clamps" wegdes etc but just will not move back in, same on both sides of car
is there a release thing on the handbrake mechanism ?
is there some kind of release in the braking system ?

been looking around just cannot find anything

just read elsewhere that i need a special tool to wind the piston back in,

 

i beleive they wind back in on the rears, big pair of grips.

 

yep screws back in NOT PUSH BACK lol

 

There is a special tool available for doing this, I know of a few people who have wrecked theirs trying to push them back in...

 

i done mine with a big pair of grips (Ł5 from b&Q) if you don't have any with very little hassle.

 

Yes they need to be wound back in, a doddle with the proper tool, but also fairly easy without!

 

Should be a big allen key hole in the middle thats the easiest way , or use a pair of long nose pliers and remember the drivers side winds clockwise and passenger side is anti clockwise .
Some of the tools you can buy to wind them back will only work on one side but it doesn't tell you that on the packet .
