Just a quick one, as I'm pretty much set on an st170 manifold to cure the shit midrange of my 1.8, after reading any threads I could find on the subject.
What I couldn't clearly make out is, If I buy the whole exhaust system from manifold to tailpipe, will it fit straight on? I think this will be an easier and cheaper way (not much cash or time). I don't want to be pissing about changing everything before an mot, or paying someone else to weld a cat in the system, so I'm not really looking at the miltek.

u will need to make minor adjustments due to the manifold etc. First been replacin the oil dipstick tube as 1.8 in wrong place. U will also need rotate side of PS pipe out of way a bit. Then u will need move one of the 02 sensors as its in way of driveshaft. Not really big jobs but need doin

well, changing the dipstick tube and moving O2 sensor is still a straight fit as far as I'm concerned it wouldn't be straight if you'd have to cut or ben some pieces or do anything that takes longer than couple of minutes for a pro

 

As long as I don't need a welder, or change anything major, I'll be pretty happy.

 

am planning on doing this aswel, is it just a matter of moving the sensor round a bit? will it matter if you move it forward or back?

 

u jus need to blank one sensor off and then weld another sensor in on the neck of the cat. If i get chace will send u pic of wot i mean. Also will try find the guide i had as well as it was useful for me

To fit a 170 manifold you will need:

Manifold
Powersteering pipe
Flexi pipe
Cat/Decat
oil dipstick pipe

Plus the standard exhaust system will not fit to the manifold. Most people have an adaptor plate made up or you can just get an ST system.

So its not a simple bolt on job really.

 

you don't need a st170 powersteering pipe - you can easily bend yours as long as it's not nearly dead by itself

by the way - the question was "if the WHOLE exhaust system would fit"!
