Shorter ratios, no LSD and not much stronger than standard box if at all IIRC...

if its out out of the later van like a v reg van then no it wont as the splines are bigger was told they run the bigger bearings too
as when i turbo'd my mk6 van i had to use the s2 friction plate and the diesal pressure plate and bearing, which is working really well at the min

i have a ap 4 paddle at the mo, so thats not good news
althought it does annoy the shit out of me in traffic so a normal clutch would be nice, just depends how long it lasts?

Also make sure it's not got a rear mounted starter motor.

The box will have a larger main shaft and bearing also the cover plate will be different using a flat release bearing which makes it much nicer for gear changes. The AP four paddle clutch will still fit as its the same flywheel your using and will take around 230bhp.

spot on!!

gear box has turned up, starter in the right place, clutch fits!!! only problem is it has no release bearing fork fitted or speedo drive. it looks like the bc ones might fit so will see.
then we will see how long it lasts before it breaks!! lol

hi, ive just had one of these boxes and was wondering if anyone knew what year cluth kit i would have to get as the mk4 clutch release bearing has a smaller internal diameter and wont fit on the box which has a metal sleve where the bearing sits, so i need the larger bearing but dont know which year or where to get one the right size any help would be useful thanks

it isn't the release bearing, the gearbox needs a rebuild from the sound of things, replace clutch kit while box is out of the car

You could possibly use your paddle clutch with this box as its the same but the earlier type and im pretty sure it will fit.

i put 1 of these on my cab a bit ago as i was sick of it getting through bc's and its much better, as already mentioned the gearing is a fair bit shorter and you loose some top end, but it gets ther quicker. My lsd bolted straight into it as well, i had the same problem with the release bearing as these diesel ib5's have a metal sleeve where the bearing goes on, if any1 needs the part number for the bearing then i can dig it out?

Only problem i came across with mine is that it hasnt got any reverse lights anymore as the reverse light connector is different, its an easy fix if you just want to swap the connector over if you cut a connector off a newer loom from something with an ib5 box.

Right, so essentially this box fitted straight on, every thing worked and you didn't have to adapt any thing? (other than fit your speedo drive).

Any one know if the internals from a sport KA box (hoping karlos G can fill me in) will go in this case along with an s2 LSD...... Changing the ratios...

Cheers

Rob,
yes sport ka ratio's fit but they are far too short for a turbo'd engine, i'v tried them before on an old zvh ka that i stripped, normal 1.3 ka ratio's on an rst lump were ideal i thought, on just a 200bhp 1.8 zvh with an omex limiter set at 6200rpm mine did 62mph in 2nd, 90mph in 3rd, 125mph in 4th, and never got to the end of 5th, all of those were on gps, and it kept the 0-60 times down as it saved an extra gear change which is needed if you use sport ka ratio's.

And yes an rst lsd diff bolt's in and just uses one of the ib5 diff bearings as its slightly bigger than the bc bearing.

Rob,
yes absolutly no mods required i used my bc speedo top bit, clutch arm & fork, ib5 release bearing and speedo drive. i havent fitted a lsd diff yet tho as i am waiting to buy a new one. but as they say if it aint broke dont try and fix it!!
the car is driving very nice at the mo and the last thing i want to do is pull the box apart and in not feel like it did before when i put it back together again!! plus its still under garuntee for a while yet.

Rob,
Yeah as said they will fit, but you'll need to machine the casings to take the bigger bearings, or maybe use the stock BC bearings but then essentially what you have done is taken the stronger IB5 box and made it weak again, it's the bigger bearings and reinforced casings that give that little bit extra strength.
Sport Ka ratio's are just like XR3i ones, nice and close! The 1.3 Ka is loooong like a diesel box......... but it's what you prefer really.

The gearing in the none turbo diesel box's are not long they are shorter than a standard rst. mine soon whips throu them at faster than it did with the turbo box. and is quickly maxed at the limiter in 5th

This is an IB5 box tho? Would they need machining for larger bearings and should already have the stronger casing? the mk5 diesel box should already have them no? Are we talking about the s2 lsd or the sport KA gears? Sorry lol im lost!

Apparently the rover 25 has an ib5 box too. Does anyone know which one is needed as I am considering changing mine soon too?

Actually the one in that link looks pretty good for the money, I take it this will go straight in using a new ib5 release bearing but how do I fit the LSD from my box?

Box is a piece of piss to strip down!

but if it is a recon box as per the link then surely it would have new bearings and not need anything apart from the correct release bearing?

You asked how to fit your S2 LSD in...... it has smaller bearings so to fit it in the IB5 box you will need new ones, unless you can get the old ones off the open diff of course.

It says recon, but for that price i really wouldn't bank on it too much.

Rob,
i rang them before i baught mine and they seam genuine, they have been trading for a long time. they said they replace synchros as well. and plus they give you a years garunte with unlimited milage. i even told them it was going in a rst and not an escort van and they said no problem. you also get a proper vat recipt as well form the company not just an ebay one.
