Default Gaz Coilovers

Have fitted a set of these to my car today. Now am I expecting too much from the kit that when the adjusting collar is wound right to the bottom that it hasn't lowered that much?

To my understanding coilover allow a greater lower capability which mine don't seem to have as when i have put the collar in the middle the car looks like a 4x4 now.

Could it be that I have put the alloy top hat in the wrong way round?

no idea on the escort, however on my xr2turbo i have to nearly have the coilover platform set to the top, anylower and they scrub the tyres on the arches.
