Default Does this mean i have to get a new headgsket ??

Hi

Found this gunk in the 2 hoses for the oil breather and in the right corner on the cylinder head. There is no gunk in the oil filler cab, and the oil filler cab and oil stick is not being blown off.

I know that when oil and water mix like that something is wrong, i think maybe this means fitting a new headgasket, is that correct ??

If yes, how difficult is it to change the headgasket?

Do i need to get an engine setup after the gasket change ?

It doesnt necessarily mean your head gasket has gone. You breather system maybe blocked causing condesation to build up.

Do you only do short journeys in the car, or does it get a proper chance to warm up?

If your head gasket is at fault, Its quite a simple job on the cvh.

My old escort on the original engine had the same problem, bearing in mind its an old car and things like this can build up over time, unless it boils up smokes ect then remove that breather pipe thoroughly clean it and clean in that corner and keep an eye on it over a period of time.

Hi Mike

So far, it has only been a few "small" trips on about 20 - 30 km, when going to get it MOT. I have not used the engine hard, before it was hot.

My breather system is new, was fitted to the car when i got the engine, so have only driven 250 km

Nah looks like normal CVH breather sludge to me. You'd know if the headgasket had gone - pressure in water system, overheating etc, but if you've just got a bit of sludge it's probably just moisture build up. Get the oil changed and use it more often
