Default Magenta 4x4 saff cossie underside clean up

Always wanted to clean it up underneath, but due to lack of space and limited time i never got motivated enough.
I saw lee2cossies thread and saw the beam dropped in one. Ahh, inspired me to start it!
I new there was a bit of grot in the rear of the sill where the bodykit rivet is so i wasnt expecting a solid, concourse underside.
So it started!!

As it sat a couple of weeks ago after the hibernation period.

Underside before stripping. Caked in wax oyl.

O/fsr arch.

The dreaded grot!

Bumper off ready for the assault

Assaulted!

Beam off. Ready to be stripped this week. Going to get blasted first!

Not looking forward to removing the old wax oyl, had a quick go with the petrol i drained from the tank. Came off ok though.

Looking for new nuts and bolts, fuel pump cradle and orange polys. Pms if anyone can help.

Not been near it for a few weeks. Stripped the beam down and took it to a mates who is sand blasting it. Should be back next week.
My mate is coming round at weekend to have a look at the grot.
Did a few hours cleaning this morning. Things i used:
1, A can of petrol and all the old t- shirts out of the wardrobe.
2, Old toothbrush
3, Sanding disc in drill

Gave the caliper a quick blast with a sanding disc.

Too many of these has slowed the resto process!!

Got the bits back from my mate. All sand blasted ready for paint. Need to get the brother into gear now to paint.

Going to do it all black apart from the diff and tank. There going to be silver.

Mastic 121 turned up last week. Not been near it because of 'functions/ piss- ups' and busy at work. Hopefully get it moving again in the next week or 2.

The phone went at 8am this morning, its Tony my bro. Your bits are done, he said!
Fucking nice one, only dropped them off saturday.
He had stone chipped them in black then blacked them. I know it aint powder coated but it will be hard wearing. Plus i dont use it in the winter or when its wet!

How it looked when it came off!

In the boot ready to go.

When i got to my dads i laid them out.

Looks a bit crackle type effect from the stonechip. Wasnt intending this but i like it.

While i was there i did a bit more cleaning, inspired by the return of the bits.

My mate Dayle came up with me and cleaned the tank. Polished it then painted it with clear vht paint. Still a few marks under the tank strap.

Also did a colour match test on the rear inner arch. Looks spot on. Will have to crack on now.

Been on it today, got a bit more done.
Wanted to get the welding done first, but because the chassis is open to the elements i decided to finish the cleaning and get the mastic 121 on. Sorted the patches that need welding, just have to tickle them with the grinder again.
I will spray the welded bits once done.
Ready!

Done!

I new i would get some use out of it!

Next is to the welding done, then the paint!

Been up this morning. The mastic looks spot on now its dry. Not sorted a welder yet, was hoping this weekend but there aint no rush now summer is quickly passing.
Couldnt resist having a quick blast with a rattle can to see how it will look with paint on it.
Will put a few coats on when ive welded it.

Should look good after a few coats.

Its good stuff. Goes on easy enough aswell. I put 1 litre on it, about 3 good coats in all.
Should stop it rusting away, they paint the legs on oil rigs with it so i have high hopes!

Cheers. Did the rocker cover with a dremmel multi and a plate sander.
Sprayed it with black vht first then sanded the raised bit again. Did this 3 times to get a good thick layer on.
Before putting the magenta on i sanded the raised section with a fine sanding block, this gave the polished look. Then i put the magenta on, again 3 coats. Sanded again with the fine block until it look spot on.
Finally it got a good lashing with clear vht paint, lots of coats!

All done with rattle cans! Good prep is the only way!

Got a welder yesterday, picked up the gas today from my local publican. Been up to the car today and started doing a bit of prep for the welding. Going tomorrow to do it. Pics to follow.
