Hi all,
Just fitted my chipped ECU.
I have noticed that the ignition timing is now off. With the engine ticking over the timing is at about 4 degress BTDC. I know the timing on tickover should be 12 degress before top dead centre as standard.
Does anyone know anything about ECU chips and how they work.
As far as I know the chip retards the ignition when you are boosting up more than standard to stop the engine detonating (pinking) aswell as throwing more fuel in.
Is this right.
I have taken the car out for a run and it goes like stink up to 15psi with the standard intercooler but uprated stage 2 Turbo but seems to be a little bit doggy bottom end before the boost comes in.
Hope someone can help
Cheers
Dave

Some ECUs can be altered to various needs for different setups ie re-programming them, so the ignition curve can be changed to match other mods to the engine, if u have brought the ecu second hand it may of been re-programmed.
The MFI ECUs on rs turbos arent really ECUs as used on cossies and EFI engines, they are just a way of setting boost limits and the retarding of the ignition for the boost pretty basic really hence why people ditch the MFI setup for better management.
Dont think the rs turbo ECU have the technology in it to put more fuel into the engine, it has to set on the metering unit and a CO Machine so running the boost you said on a standard fuel percentage will result in pinking and blowing your engine up.
As with fitting any chip, take it to a tuner for a setup.

Got it booked into Well Lane Turbos to get set up. Had to put the original ECU on it to get it running right.
Thanks for the help.
