Bearing in mind it's only been one day
Since the last two weeks were Easter holidays / half-term anyway!
But they do estimate it's "only" 150,000 Brits stuck abroad, so I can't see that having a huge impact on the on-road traffic...

Its made me wonder what difference the grounding has made regarding the carbon footprint planes apparently make,
All these dudes saying the planes are a big arse levy on carbon emissions etc should be out there now doing their shit to try and prove their point, perfect time for it, if they aint doing it then they should just sit down and STFU.

i'v driven 7 hours today commuting i went to essex this morn down the a14/m11, then into london along the a10 and 406, and then come home from north london down the 406 and m40.
this morning there was steady traffic, but still a little less than normal but coming home the m40 was clear i made it home in a good hour and a half
, not to sure if it was just cos of the planes being grounded though as it is tie'ing in with the end of the easter hols and some schools aren't back till tmoz.

Problem is, why are the planes grounded???
A: Becasuse the the sky is now full of sulphur ash

Im guessing the natural act of the volcano, is far worse than man made polution
A1 was shite this morning with usual 'trucker 0.1mph overtaking manouvure that takes 10 miles to complete', M1 was full of pricks in outside lane going slower than lorries in lane 1, so much so that in the 50 zone roadworks, that are on for no apparant reason now the barrier is complete and the road is all painted up, we were actually going faster than any other part of the M1 we travelled on. Then onto M6 at crawling speed. So all in all NO, roads arent better

yeh much clearer saturday i went on the m25 and off j13 too look at some turbo bits when i went to go home i went the wrong way round the m25 but it only took an hour to get home? how strange past the gatwick and heathrow turn off and even through the dartford tunnel
On the deck where planes do most damage on take off is where the greens harp on about most, the greens are forever around airports, and even in city centres taking reading for this that and the other types of pollution, now theres no planes moving it is their ideal time to get some readings and wallop us with proof and evidence, instead of smart-arse answers
Its the damage that the ash particles can do to the plane that has grounded them, not because the volcano will leave a potentially hoooge footprint.
