rock hard brake pedal

Default rock hard brake pedal

tonight, drove the car home from work and the handbrake warning light came on, and then about 15 mins after just as i pulled up at the house, the brake pedal went absolutely rock hard and no brakes!!!!????

frightening to say the least..

any ideas guys?

I've had this with a failed servo. Undo the brake pipes one by one from the servo and push the brake pedal each time. When my servo failed there was no fluid being pumped to the rear brakes. Two pipes serve the front, one for the rear brakes.

But as said, could also be ABS related.

car runs fine with no probs. just doesnt stop!! lol

cant hear the pump kicking in like it used to so guess it will be that then!

I have change pressure switch on abs unit, on some cars to fix this problem. It seems like it happening most on cars ho have stand still for some time

he handbrake light coming on means it's a pressure fault

or the fluids too old and dirty

or it's got too hot

if it's buzzing all the time then it might be that the relay/fuse has melted causing the problem so take a peek under the passenger side footwell to see if there is a green/purple relay that's constantly buzzing away

pull one of them out one by one (there are 3 in total) until the uzzing stops

you will have no brakes mind so don't use the car, but if a replacement relay solves the problem then sorted

if you need a pressure switch, just bear in mind that they are old and are a right bugger to get out and i've had a few that have stripped the threads fron inside the abs pump housing while trying to get them out, rendering the thing as scrap

I had this on my saph years ago, the power cable to the battery for the abs pump had broken off the battery terminal.
