Angry Central Day = Fail! What IB5 box do I need?

1st... 2nd... Oh I have no gears!!!

Looks like I wont be making Central day as I only have 2nd and Reverse!
Goes in 3rd, 4th, and 5th but nothing happens, 1st just makes a lovely crunching sound, and it rattles like a bag of spanners as i'm going along in 2nd

So.... what IB5 box (from what car and year please) fits straight on and will accept my Quaife ATB?
If anyone has one thats fairly low mileage let me know, I can have a courier collect if you dont mind bubble wrapping it up!

Thanks!

Fooooook. Not good Karl. Didn't Zetec Fiestas, MK3.5's, have front starter mounted IB5's?

Not good, especially after all that hard work you have put in.

I've got a IB5 in mine, came from a mk5 escort IIRC and my S2 LSD fitted fine, hope that helps.

I know I know! lol

What EXACTLY do I need to do to make a MTX fit then?
Cut the wing to make more space, weld mounts in? Anything else? Can you fit it with the engine in or is it too tight?

ib5's were used in all sort's, puma's, mk4 and 5 fiesta's, ka's, sport ka's, focus's, im sure some mk6 escorts had them too, and rover 25's with slight differences, depends what starter position you need though, i know that a sport ka or 52 plate onwards ka with a duratec engine, both those box's have the same starter position as a cvh so will bolt straight up but you need to make mounts, early ka's and mk4 and 5 fez's with endura engines all had the starter at the back at the top, and all zetec-s engines weather its a 1.25, 1.4, 1.6, or 1.7 out of a puma they all had them at the front at the top, and an rst lsd bolt straight into them.

let me know what you go for and exactly whats involved in sticking 1 in a mk4 as my cab needs 1 soon, i can see it all going pete tong when its mapped next saturday.

if you modify the engine mount to make the engine sit 20mm lower you dont have to cut the inner wing to make it fit, it will also clear the brake servo if you do it this way.
however you will still have to make and weld a suitable mounting to the inner wing and lower bulkhead for the sway bar mounting allthough you may be able to modify a mk3 escort rear gearbox mount for this im not sure
then of course there is driveshafts that need modifying as well i personally would fit mk5 escort hubs so you only need to get driveshaft lengths altered as opposed to messing about with swapping cv's to get the right splines plus this way you get a hub with a far superior bearing allthough they are still a bit pants if running big wheels lol!

Fuck me thats a ball ache!! As I can do almost none of it myself!

I think a CTS Stage 2+ might have to be the way to go, i'm not going to be running enough torque to break one of those and they come up for sale on here fairly regulary.
I have my Quiafe ATB LSD to sell which was about £650 new and only done about 2500miles so that will pay for a good part of a second hand CTS S2+

I think the plan now is for me to run an old XR3i box that I have lying around until I can source a CTS Stage 2+ box for a good price.
It's the easiest bolt on option and for the torque i'm running it should be ok!

Bollocks mate, what a ballcahe as you were saying it was 'supposed' to be a really low mileage box too
seeing as you've got the diff (one of the expensive bits) why don't you give cts a call and see how much to rebuild yours, as when mine went last year they only charged me 350 to rebuild as the quaiffe was fine......shot peened gears were an extra 350 on top of that which i WANTED but was told as they didn't have any there would be a minimum 6 week wait, and tbh they'd already had the bloody thing for a month!!!
Think it might be worth a call mate, as a 2nd hand one will cost you more than 650 i'd have thought....

No worries mate, there's always somethin to give us hassle eh, usually when things are going well too!
Still waiting on some valve springs to turn up for mine so hopefully mapping can carry on and get the boost up lol, yours has done well mate by the sound of it, probably similar power to my old engine, that held 1.5bar and made 245bhp and i reckon yours shouldn't be a million miles from that

That's a shitter mate. I've got an IB5 box in my garage, done less than 40k miles. Came off a Ka and I know the Quaife will fit as a mate put one in his box. £20 and it's yours as it's in my garage collecting dust. It's also a hydraulic release bearing so you'll just need to pipe it up with your hydraulic pedal conversion

Been offered a 2+ for £600 so will probably go with that for ease of fitting etc..
