I have just bought a Mk6 Escort RS2K to smoke about in for abit, it has a magnex system and decat and it sounds awfull imo.

It sounds really tinny and almost like the exhaust is just rattling, i have heard others that sound like this aswell and my exhaust is properly fitted.

Is there any way to make it sound better?

 

Might be caused by the decat, have any boxes been removed from the system?

 

No its an off the shelf magnex system.

 

Put a standard system on it. It will sound 10 times better!

 

I had a early version with full mongoose system fitted and it sounded the nuts, my mother in law could always tell when i was home for tea as she could here me coming from about 3 streets away lol

Refitting the cat will most likely make it sound a bit less tinny. Taking the cat off does seem to make a bit of a difference on some I've heard.

I love the noise they make to be honest, really distinctive and aggro

 

as above stick the cat back on wont be loud but should sould a lot nicer

 

It sounds like that but the tinny sound you can hear is alot more extreme, i may try a different system to the magnex and see if it reduces it abit.

I dont really want to put a cat back on it so i may have to just live with it i just dont understand why these cars in particular sound this way.

Had a scorpion on my one and sounded superb tbh

Mates 4x4 one had a magnex and decat and sounded pish, deffo refit the cat

 

put a cossie engine in it

you say that... but i reckon a standard YB lump sounds REALLY flat even with a performance exhaust.
different matter once you start tuning it admittedly.

The de-cat made mine sound tinny and as you put it, shite!

I opened up the centre box and found it to be empty, no sound absorbing material at all, it may well have come from the factory like this I dont know, but I brought some silencer wadding from Merlin motorsport and packed that into it, welded it back up and it sounded much better

 

I think i will try a different system as i like my cars a little louder than the magnex is but if that doesnt make it any better ill stick the cat back on, people keep telling me that these really benefit from a decat though.

 

but he wants it to start and run day in day out lol
