Default Larger uprated diff for a 3dr cossie???

As above I am looking into a larger diff for my 3dr.I don't want anything noisy clonky diffs like Grippa, don't want a Quaife either.
What are my options on a larger diff, where can I get one from and what sort of money please?I know Kevin Sharp had a 9" diff on his escos converted to rwd.
Will the driveshafts have to be modified or the beam itself?Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.Lee.

The 9" fits in the std 2wd beam, you have to drill 1 hole in the floorpan further over to bolt the diff mount to the car as they use a different mount, and iirc you can use a pair of the longer 2wd driveshafts.

9'' is an rs 500 diff i think. Rod use,s a daimler limo diff think thats a 10.5'' but u would have to pm him about beam / flange and sharft mods thats the cheap option!. If u go ford 9'' there mega money so u may as well go gripper or quaife with a uprated cwp good for 500lb ft un less u drive like a twat all the time

standard RS500 diff is a 7.5". 9" was developed for the RS500 touring cars ( i think ) you will pay about £2500 - £3000 for a 9".

From what I've read the 9" rear end was homologated originally for the RS200 to cope with 650bhp+ and then adapted for use in the Gp A Sierras.
They were originally plate type ZF ones at first then viscous coupling on the Mk2 design.
Think you can get 4:27, 4.09, 3.82, 3.64, 3.42, 3.25 and 3.08 ratios. Andy G uses a VC in his Focus - the advantanges of the bigger VC is that it resists the build up of heat for longer without a cooler (although you could plumb one in ) and the diff can be rated much 'tighter' than a 7.5" with nickel plates - see the big thread on rear diffs for more info from the people who know like ian sibbert, markk, Tony Ryan etc.
The diff internals are much stronger obviously on the 9" as well.
As said though, they're not cheap.
Have you thought about the Titan plated diff ( supposed to be quieter than a Gripper ) that Mike R can get hold of in a 7.5" fitment? I don't know how much power/torque you run and how you drive though

9" diff, how bloody much.Well that's out the window then.I'm looking for something to cope with 500bhp probably 450lbs/ft torque at least.I was contemplating just getting my standard diff rebuilt as the car won't be tracked, launched or driven that hard on the road. The planet gears shouldn't break if it's not launched should it?
So u think I should contact MIKE R then to see wht he has for a 7.5" diff?Like I say I don't wasnt it noisy and clonkey like a grippa diff. What size are the Quaife diffs and Grippa diffs anyway are they still standard 7.5" size?

Thanks.Lee.

There 7.5 inch or 7 if u wont. Mines a gripper and its not that clonkey lol its fine to live with its the torque that kills them and the week bit with a 7.5 is the crown wheel and pinion i ripped all the teeth off mine in 2nd comeing off a roundabout hard so u need to up rate that aswell if u say 7.5 but u will always be on the limits of a diff that size with big torque

I am having the same problem in my Cosse 2wd.
Does anyone have further info on this 9" diff? What cars are using it?

Has anyone consider the Ford 8.8 diff from Thunderbird?
Or a BMW diff?

Regarding the Supra MkII solution, can you please give some more details? I.e. where to buy etc?

With regards the 8.8, i looked into this but you are still looking at £1000 for the diff (all be it brand new everything) and then you have to do a lot of modding to the beam to make it fit.

Contact Lincoln off here if you want more info as he has gone this route.

With regards the 9inch, the last time i spoke to Bara im sure they were like £3000-3500+vat

Yes they are 3.5k+vat at BARA,u do have to modify the beam and the group A diff mount is no good, there is a specificalkly designed mount for a 9" diff,I think u have to drill a hole in the body aswell to fit this diff mount.Kevin Sharp, breaking his escos in the parts section,he had the diff, now sold,he knows quite a lot about it.

CheeRS.Lee.
You dont have to modify the beam as long as you use a 2wd one the 9" diff fits staight in with no mods.

Very interesting!!
Are you saying I could replace my 7,5" diff in my 2wd 3doors Sierra Cosworth with a 9" Ford diff without any mods, beam, cardan etc.?
I like it!
Have you any name of the car types I could buy the 9" diff from?

Hi Mate,

Got any more info on what diffs these are and what models they came out of?

Also, where can you get the adapters cheap?

what sort of power/torque can they take?

Cheers in advance
