Default Tvs on the wall....

Right, i'll get to the chase, im a bit fed up of my son (15 months) turning the tv and dvd on and off and on and off and on and off and on and off

SO, i want to put it on the wall, but need to connect my dvd home theatre, virgin box, wii and if possible my pc.

Being a new house, there is no fireplace/wall, so i thought of building a false chimney breast wall thing in the middle of the wall, as a feature point of view to hang the tv, and put in some shelves failry high up which would also essentially hide the cables etc...........

BUT i'm looking for a bit of inspiration and pictures if possible of what you guys may have done

Hope you can help

I was getting huge quotes so decided to do mine myself and am so so glad i did it was easy.

mounting the tv bracket is just drilling and mounting easy

to channel the wires

angle grind 2 lines up and 2 across then chisel out the middle nail in some trunking pull all the wires in clip the top on and fill all over sand fill sand fill sand fill easy easy

just waiting to finish painting now, but warned it is very very very messy using a grinder on plaster and brick.

remember to future proof the instal, i.e, run the cables you think you may use in the fututre.
You may not have an sky hd box for example right now, but run an hdmi cable(or 2 ) in case you decide to get it in the future, should make life that much easier if the cables are plastered into the wall in trunking.
If you have a laptop, you may want to run in a vga cable incase you want to view it on the tv, or if you smash the screen by accident, you can still use it.

I'd rather have a low TV than one mounted so far up the wall it gives you neck ache!

Heres mine,

Samsung 40" jobby
Phillips soundbar (Mrs doesnt like surround sound speakers dotted around room)
Samsung wall mounted blu ray player
In unit beside Chimney, PS3, Xbox 360, Virgin HD+, nintendo wii

I boarded out the original chimney breast using some 10mm battons, plasterboarded and had it plastered. Skirting board can be removed using screws and pull wires are in the wall incase i need to replace a cable.

Don't put it too high, When I wall mounted mine, it was about 12" higher than eye level and that hurt my neck to look at it. Moved it down, and its perfect now. Just got to run the remote eye thing for the wii through the wall

I did a full build on mine the only thing that's changed from below is the addition of a new Sub, SkyHD, Black wii [which I've switched on possibly twice ] and the CD stands have been binned.

The lights behind the TV are colour changing LEDs [nicked the idea from my Dad's Philips ambilight TV]

Next step is a 6 foot projector screen

P.S this was it before so you can get an idea of how much I've done to the house

Won't a wireless sensor bar need batteries etc? Its a piece of piss to run the wire through the wall anyway so probably just leave it as is, just havent got round to it yet!

Cheaper option; get rid of the kid.

A TV should not be higher than the centre of the screen being at the same level as your eyes whilst in a normal seated position. Any higher or lower is not good.
