Fackin hell, most of the cars shown in that bottom picture are better than my car. Surely a lot of those cars didn't need to be traded in under the scrappage scheme as they look as if they would have been worth a reasonable amount - there's even a fairly new looking A class Merc in there.
When these cars are sent to the "licensed scrappage yards" who gets the money from the parts sold, the government or the scrap yard? Also what happens to the fuel that is recovered from their tanks?

Thought that, was lookin at the arches but seem to slim for the FRP.

Some of them cars can be 1st car driver cars. See the Goverment for boosting sales but it kills others means aswell.

Vectra Gsi was scrapped with 90k on the clock. The VVOC were livid as it still was taxed and mot'd and mint inside and out.

wot a load of rubbish, no wonder numbers are dwindling for secondhand cars- i can't beleive that some people traded a few of them in for less than 2k!
If the government took there heads out of eachothers a$$es they'd see that upping our import rates encouraging cash struck people to borrow more really hasn't helped the country much!

If it wasn't for the scrappage scheme my old fella and 1300 other people would be out of work in my town

Fail to see how a load of old shit boxes sitting waiting to be scrapped can class the scheme as a failure!

Why don't the government now sell those cars off for cheap and make some money.

I dont think anyone is saying it was a failure more that its stupid that these perfectly good working cars HAVE to be scrapped. There is a mint looking pickup, a disco and that gold audi, while a minging colour im sure is worth more than 2k.

Why they dont sell each one for Ł500 or something, even if they took the economic ones and people who had actual shitters could trade up. That would make alot more sense IMO

Looks to be a fair few decentish motors in there!

Then again, i bet any money you could go onto autotrader and find a decent example of each of the cars in the pic anyway. So although they might seem wasted, its not as if they are needed by anyone.

It's on Google Maps too. Shame to see it piled up & left to rust away until it gets scrapped!

What you can see on Google maps is most likely new cars being stored there. I used to service a site on Thurleigh and most of the time its the big manufacturers using it as a storage facility for new and unsold vehicles. They're parked up too neatly in the bays for them to be scrappers

Yeah, in dog eating countries that have profited most from the UK scrappage scheme by selling Kias, Hyundais and general shite like that that will be knackered in 5 years time and will be nothing better than landfill for this country to deal with.

The UK should have followed Germany's scrappage scheme, by only including cars that were built in the UK. This would have given our economy a massive boost.

Just see the ML!

There is a MGF, 5 series BMW, Saab 9-5 cab, Fiat coupe turbo, Mr2 and a old school E28 5 series BMW!

I assume a few of those cars had problems but lots of people just cant be bothered to sell their old car I suspect.
