thoughts on this video of the US army...
Didn't watch it all, it's real war footage -
This is the sort of thing civilians shouldn't really see as we can't comment on what is filmed - for all we know they could have been stopping a meeting that could have organised a massive attack on our own troops.

There's quite a delay between the sound of the gunfire from the helicopter and the rounds impacting the ground/targets... Would indicate some distance as you suggest!

Yeah i read on Militeryphotos.net that its usualy around 2 miles they hit them from, and the shells only have to land withing 10 feet of you to still kill you. Some guy on it says his buddy was a pilot on them and made a comment saying that because they never engage armour anymore in iraq/afghan they swap out the AP shells for HEI (high explosive incendiary) and they are just fucking unreal
The whole war in iraq/afghan re-wrote the rule books of modern warefare, everyone thought that the 21st battlefield would be a digital war, instead its the ultimate soldiers war, clearing rooms with bayonets, the apache took this idea of the soldiers war and flung it out the fucking window and put the blance back in the hands of technology

1.In my opinion, to hit a target, like a group of men, from 2 miles away is very impressive!!

2.Im more than likely showing my complete lack of knowledge regarding military helicopters etc,but why can't/don't the armed terrorists hear or see the American helicopter in the distance and drop or hide their guns??

It was unarmed men and children they fired on
2 of them were reporters from Reuters

Because it probably bloody far away and pretty high. This is so the enemy don't hear them coming. Or so I would imagine, dont think the pilot would want people on the ground to know where he is.

They are in air transport. Looked dodgy, also that fella pokin his head round with a long object?
Come on, you'd ask for permission to shoot. Afterall they could of been proper bad guys.
Sure comments were distastful but if they were hit they would be saying "oh shit" also no compo as they knew what they were getting into
Shame a child was injured but afterall if x amount of ppeople get shot and you drive in your askin for it. They should of drove in waved hands and not drove. Then if the heli shot at them they would have been able to shoot them.
I think you would have to that sort of approach otherwise it would really mess you up. Try and make a joke about it etc and shut off from the reality that you are slaughtering humans by the dozen. Either laugh or cry.
Shame civilians got hurt but afterall they know whats going on there.
People who make the "Collateral MURDER" site are gegging on publicity. Do they praise when it goes great and it stops terrorists killing people???? NO.
Sure this war does not need British Soldiers but keep the family happy afterall if China kick off we might be fucked. (take that in jest)
If cameramen want to tag onto insurgents then they have to expect to get engaged. On the liveleak version with the arrows pointing out the cameramen, they cunningly forget to point out the group of men behind them with at least 2 x AK47's and 1 x RPG!!
The van unfortunately just happened to turn up at the wrong time I'm afraid.

It's a war, shit like that happens. TBH it looked like they had guns and an RPG amongst them so what were the SOLDIERS supposed to do??
Take a risk and let them be, potentially killing ALOT more innocents, or even taking out a helicopter or other troops?
Nothing wrong with the video, imo. Infact, i bet stuff like that (and worse) goes on all the time! Just unlucky that the video has got out.

Well I've watched the whole video.. but didn't have much to say myself..until I just seen this on SKYNEWS WTF..they're saying that those on the ground were reporters..and that they had camera's with extra long lense's yeah right..none of those were carrying camera's you can see those are rpg's and ak47.. and they way skynews has edited the video for their benifit and not shown what actually went on..makes it look like they were innocent people...it's friggin war..dont get in the way if you are innocent dont walk about with something that looks like a weapon, and dont be around people who do have weapons..idiots..shame about the kids..they are innocent..

Thats it. In the end of the video it shows 2 fella's walking to a building. 1 stops moving his right arm then darts to the other side of the road into a building.

As for deniability, thats the big wig pencil pushers decision so it should not be taken out on the people who are out fighting.
Also, the people that get up in arms about an innocent child being wounded probably don't even bat an eyelid when you say "hiroshima". It makes it more personal when its an individual rather than a thousand.

Media control makes it seem worse than it is.
All very well showing a grainy picture of what might be weapons but the helicopter loses sight of them for over 30 secs while it circles back round that building. Who's to say the 2 guys with the "supposed" weapons hadn't fucked off into one of those buildings or even kept walking in there direction.

media shouldnt be out there really. Media has fucked a lot of shit up.
Sorry but what the hell do people expect?? war is messy, violent, bloody etc etc.
Its only because people dont like what they see that they kicking up a fuss. dont fucking watch it then!!
Think in WW2 much much worse was going on every day including collateral damage on all sides. Difference is nobody except the soldiers saw most of it, so the civvys at home still had the impression of heroes fighting for our cause. Had people been able to see the true horrors of war im sure support wouldnt have been so great once the threat of invasion had passed.
these days people get the horrors of war on live TV/news in HD, surround sound etc. is it really any surprise a lot of civvies dont like it?? Its thier own niavity that shocks them.
and on collateral damage it is impossible to avoid. Insurgents/terrorists often deliberately operate within the civilian population to ensure if attacked there is a high collateral damage, thus winning the terrorists more support and making us look worse. Your damned if you do, your damned if you dont.
But look at it this way, id rather 500 innocent children were killed in a country thousands of miles away that no one really gives a shit about versus 500 innocent children killed in a terrorist attack at home.
One may say no life is worth less than another, and in a ideal world that would be true but the reality is far different.
Thats not saying soldiers dont care, cos of course they do, but it is niave to believe that a soldier would place a civvy in afghan with the same value as friends and family at home.

sure most people feel that way just darent admit it these days
I'm not niave enough to think that this stuff wasnt happening but I chose not to get into thoughts about it.
I only managed to get 9 minutes into that vid and didn't even like seeing the "other side" getting shot when collecting there wounded. Was kind of like hiting a man when he's down? in the context of war that doesnt equate I know.

I watched the whole thing, and TBH I can't work out if they are armed or not! But we are trying to look at it from a reduced size video thats low definition and with untrained eyes.
Apache pilots are trained for months and continue training all the time to identify targets, which to be fair, we wouldn't be able to pick out even if we stared it right in the face.
But either way... thats quite a scary video!
