Default Can 380+BHP really be acheived on a standard 2wd cosworth?

Hi all,

I was reading on MSD website that you can have 380BHP + on a standard engine running
there chip, 3bar map sensor, -34 actuator, T34-55 and siemens 55s.

Can this really be achieved on a standard engine with with standard pistons, standard compression and standard cam.

I thought the standard compression on a cosworth would be wrong to run this power.

Cheers

i know its not 2wd, but i have just fitted this conversion to my BT escos, it was stage 1 before this, it is now fitted and im having it checked on a rolling road with a power run on thursday so i will post up the results. i have give it some stick in first and second and it goes like . fuel consumption is way better normal driving aswell.

Yes you can also achieve this easily with anyones stuff, on a T34.48, as the nice chap at CR turbos used to have on his very own 2wd cossie, and more, greys will also achieve this perfectly IF mapped correctly with ace emissions and economy.

has this always been the case , what i mean is, is this a fairly recent thing, i had my last cossie 8 years ago and back then to get 380-400 bhp you would need low compression, flowed head etc etc, is this just because of the advances in mapping.

Yep. Runs really well and goes like stink! For ultimate reliability it's recommended to do a head gasket and oil breather upgrade as well.

Certainly don't need to lower CR's like most do, even for some 330-350 tunes, better ecu control, or rather better injector control has played a massive part in tuning, esp over the clockwork L1/6 etc.
I'm on greys with 0.97% CO with 137PPM, with just under 190,000 miles on the bottom end, but I do flush every oil change, I'm only running 17/18 psi at the mo due to wear, but yes 380 easy on a .48 t34.

What size exhaust would you need for that sort of power would 2.5 be big enough or would you need 3inc?

So what your saying is 380 can be done with 2.5. Only asking because I'm ltd for space and don't think I've got room for a 3inc pipe.

realy didnt think 380 was possible on a t34.48, its what im running on my stock engine with greys and all the other goodies, peak 30 and holding 28 all the way through, shoukld get it on the rollers realy to see what shes making, may change to .55 though as it hasnt quite got the guts at top of revs

My old 3dr made 363 bhp with similar torque on T34.48 Greys, that peaked @ 32 psi and dropped off as they do, was a great road car that AND if i ever do mod the current 3dr it'll be same again...

It did over 150 regularly so it never botherd me.... and whilst BIG bhp cars are/were struggling for grip, you're gone..

Just have a browse through some old Performance Ford mags when they did all the tests. 0-60 0-100 etc, T34 cars aint bad.. neither were Tiffs & Popeyes Gunship T3 cars..

Engine internals are fine, I think it used to be the done thing everyone lowered CRS for some reason, loads of boost and away you went don't know why as it makes for a horrible drive. With .55 you would see an easy 380 but think that would be the max for .48

Hard to say a MAX Joe, but i'd go for 370-390 give or take 10bhp eitherway..

Ebay mate or on the cosworth parts for sale section on this site. They normally go about Ł250.00 used. .55 housings are quite rear so turbo will probably come the .48 housing.

One on the bay. You will have to check the condition of it, if it is used.

Thanks Pete, thats what I was hoping for. Think I'll get it set up for that then lock it down to 350bhp.
