Default mondeo gearbox probs

Hi every one my mum has a 2.016v S reg mondeo manual i think it has a mtx75 gear box in it as it has a hydraulic clutch and lift up reverse.

The clutch started to slip so she paid for someone to put a new clutch and concentric bearing in £300 but now she can not get it into gear she took it back to who fitted the clutch and he said that the cable gear selectors have strechted and would need to take it to the main dealer as it requires a special tool to adjust them and said it would be about £300 for them to do inc parts.

Is he talking shit as i have read on here people putting cable selector gear boxs in with out any troubles

did the mondeo ever come with cable selectors i was under the impression that they had rods

can anyone spread any light on the situation

cheers,
Phil

Did they replace the concentric slave cylinder at the same time ?, this needs to be 100% air free or you will have trouble.
Check also they have not bust plastic ends of the gear cables.
It is a pita job to do about 2-3 hours, cables are around £50 the pair(pattern) ZERO special tools needed, if the cables are a fault, I would check first it may just have air in the system.
Either way it went in selecting gears ?, it should do so coming back as well, some heavy handed monkeys manage to do the cables in though.

Wholeheartedly agree wiv Tab.

Sounds like your being fobbed off, it went in selecting gears, only had a clutch replaced, sounds to me like cheetah has buggered the cables....ongawa !!! Give 'em some grief and let them sort it !!

cheers for the replies. tabs it's been back once and they said they bled the system again. apperently they changed the slave cylinder but i'm doubting they ever did. their ment to be a gearbox and trasmission specialist but apparently didn't have the specialist tools to adjust the cables!!!!
Wankers stung my mum for £300 now she don't trust the car and is going to chop it in on saturday. 2.0l balck top zetec with 78k on the clock hardly worn out!!

Thanks for post guys you all just backed up what i was thinking!!

cheers,
Phil

I'd be sending her down trading standards, tossers like this just give us reputable guys in the trade a bad name.

Sorry to here she's gonna sell it now, this unfortunately happens a lot when cowboys have got at some poor sods car !
