Hi guys

im currenty trying to remove underseal on my escort mk5 so i can uncover and rust and sort it out before i paint my car but its a bloody pain in the arse! Whats the best way to get it off?

So far ive tried using butane gas to heat it up and scrap it of but this doesnt realy do it effectivly.

Ive rang a number in the yellow pages to get a quote for sandblasting it and tey want 300quid as apparently its a tough job?

Can anyone shed some light on this as i wanna get my project moving at a faster pace while i can

Petrol

 

if it schutz petrol or thinner or if its factroy sealer a grinder 1/2" wire wheel but you'll have to etch prime it again it takes it to the metal both are messy jobs get to a car boot tomoz cheap wire wheel from there

 

wire wheel try to get a twist knot one they look really aggresive but just shine the metal underneath up as opposed to scratching it

 

As above. Twist knot wire wheel on a grinder. Strips the underseal off effortlessly

 

ive got one of them twist knot things, a clake one it doenst seem to do it to great?

 

Those wire bits don't half sting your chops when they fly off though

I've known some people use a heat gun and scraper too.

I prefer the wheel but you need to allow an hour to get it off your face after

 

the scraper works best but its not so good in the corners

the petrol only softens it up it still takes some going to get it of with the twist knot

ive found some bad rust on the floor pan so ive stoped stripping and im having a sulk for the time being

whats peoples thoughts on sandblasting?

 

having the same dilemna myself mate just last night i logged onto Frost Automotives' website and discovered a Soda blasting kit for @ £220 inc vat + @ £50-£75 for media etc... seems a lot safer than shot blasting, check out the instruction video, bit of an eye-opener as shot blasting can be quite harmful to panels depending on the force used !
