Default Cars in 5 - 10 years time LIFE

I feel being born in the 70's was the best possible time, colour tv, no internet, slow cars (compared to now!) my first car was a sky blue mk1 mexico very fast back then second was a 2 year old series 1 rst..stunning stuff chipped to whatever bhp..lol...off the clock 4 up down stockbury straights (someone on here can verify this, remember the spunk incident mate whilst you was shagging on my back seat in that RST!You certainly was plumbing mate!)) I digress, my point being will cars be capped soon..like Group B rallying/ F1 infact every motorsport due to being too dangerous? What with the V10 engine being axed by BMW (ok the new v8 tt engine will produce 560ish bhp) time has gotta say its tooooo much BHP capped be it by saftey or eco. Will my 600bhp in 20 years time still be stagerringly fast still as bhp is capped? or will i have a 1000bhp merc sitting there? I can help feeling the world was made for us who were born in the 70's...it can only go so far. Another issue is will simon have refunded/returned everything in 20 years time?

he's more likely to go on a mad axe murdering spree than be shot by a drug gang

Just think, when people go nuts and go on a killing spree its usually those they hate the most that get wasted first

If the tree huggers get there way, we'll all be driving hybrids and wondering what hit us!

I actually wish I was older in many ways, motorsport in the 70s/80s was far better, production cars were far more interesting, and the world wasn't obsessed with making us all drive hideous, supposedly eco-friendly boxes that are no better than your average diesel.

I turn 26 this year, and to be honest I feel I've missed the best times of car ownership. No doubt some moder cars are stupendously fast, but I have a feeling that it won't last much longer. I'd rather walk everywhere than be forced to drive an electric car!

They bang on about eco cars when in reality they arent, they get thier fuel source from electric which is primarily coal fuelled. This isnt eco friendly. Just another fad if you ask me. If they are going to be called eco cars they need to run on their own by solar for example.

im 28 and feel im just in the right spot regards cars tbh ,

yeah the 70s would of been sweet , but were at a time where you can get a hell of alot of power for say 10 k , shit even 5 k , wich most mid to late 20 yr olds can afford ,

also i think folk of my age have the advantage of been just on the limit of still being able to find solid and useable classic cars ,

all beit a little more pricy dependant on car ,

still think on 15 yrs from now when im picking up my kids from school in a 600 hp mk 3 escort , smoking the rears lol ,

p.s , aint going to be 600 brake now , but fucking well should be in 15 yrs time lol

maybe in britain, but not everywhere. e.g. france has a lot of nuclear. whether that is eco friendly either is also debatable. but the point is, that not all electricity comes from un-eco friendly sources (e.g. wind, solar, wave, tidal etc), and certainly the proportion that doesn't will only rise in the future.

daily drivers will be hydrogen powered in 10 years time and weekend cars will be petrol and 1000 bhp, imo.

The golden age of cars for me was late 80's through to early 2000's. Obviously I am biased being 29, but all the classic Gti cars were in thier heyday, and the modified car scene was all about power and handling, not 1.0 corsas with hideous bodykits... Nights like the Esses in Birmingham, early Weston SM cruises etc were fucking awesome nights out, always lots of action., and the whole 'car' thing was a lot more friendly.

You can't get away with anything now, trackdays are the only real place to give your car a good drive.

I think you're right William, however i wouldnt be at all surprised that most normal paid folk, get priced out of doing trackdays in the next ten years as well.

I think the whole "scene" will end up revolving around folks buying and hanging onto cars from the previously described Golden Age, a time before Sat nav, ESP, Climate control bulshit. Cars from a simpler era, both simpler to maintain, simpler in the way they drive (less electronic interferance etc) and iconic in so many ways.

Future cars i suspect will all be about electric/petrol hybrids, lower Co2 figures, Ncap safety bolloxs etc etc.

My main point is that hot hatches/ fast cars of the past were 99% driver skill you get the best out of them, if you fucked up you knew about it, instead of just getting random abs assisance to keep the car straight and a flashing light on the dash to show you were being normalU
