Have a noisy chain on my E39 528 just wondering how easy it to sort it? as i may do it my self if it just needs the tensioner?

If not what kind of price would i pay for
New Tensioner fitted £???
New Chain and Tensioner fitted £???

Is the noisy chain like a loud tick every revolution ?, if it is it may well be grinding away the metal around it, I know on the 4 cyl engines it could wear through where it hit causing leaks etc, due to an outside link piece on the chain coming loose and flapping around as still attached other end of the link.
